2010 could hold either spec'ed up versions of current technology (e.g., large HDDs and some SSDs) or possibly young and totally new technology (e.g., holographic 3D storage, etc.). It's hard to guess.
Personally, I can't see 8 core notebooks anytime soon just because of the cooling [and other similar] issues. I realize that we can become steadily more efficient, but it seems like there's got to be a better solution that shoving more processing cores in there.
Super-fast SSDs combined with ultrahigh capacity HDDs would be a very effective combination. Together with 8GB of fast RAM, we could see some major laptop performance jumps without ramping up processor specs up THAT much.
With screen technology, it's the same again - we could just see higher and higher resolution or we could see a revolution in how we see our digital information visually represented. Full sized touch screens could be a starting idea, but the "Minority Report effect" is also a fun-sounding step we might take.
No doubt about it though - if nothing else, Apple will lead the way in innovation.
