I'm just a guy on the sidelines waiting to see what comes of this before placing an order, but I've got to tell you, I'd be absolutely furious if I just dropped $2K+ and was playing the return/phone game.

Then to have replacements freeze too.

Does anyone really believe a problem of this magnitude will have a "quick fix", and this is as simple as slapping a little firmware update on? Sounds to be a tad more wide-scale than that, but that's just my uninformed opinion...

That GT130 looking mighty fine as it stands..

My delivered today iMac 4850 is running without problem. I have thrown a lot at it, you can look at one of the 3-6 other threads that have been running on this topic and see everything I have done with it in the past several hours.

It seems to me that I am either very lucky, or its already fixed.

I sure hope that's the case but if we were in Vegas I'd give you a line on the latter.

I spoke too soon. The iMac didn't freeze at all until I finally got WoW installed, played for 20-30 minutes, and then full lockup.

Please proceed to the window to cash ticket for those who wagered on no-fix. :p

Yeah, no luck. Unless it was a fluke but it matches pretty close to what others had happen (30 minutes of WoW), so I doubt it.

At the WoW forum in the Mac section, there are users detailing these freezes but across many machines, however most recently the 4850. I think the problem may be that the top of line iMac does not have enough inherent cooling, and whatever further aggravates the problem via Airport (which may be an entirely different animal).

Point is, regardless of what is to come, everyone should utilize fan-control because these 4850 machines are vulnerable and susceptible to performance related issues when pushing the video card on certain games.

I feel the same way (except for the GT130 part). I'm usually one of the first people in line when it comes to buying new gadgets, but since I'm a PC user, I decided to wait around to see what others would say before I took the dive. Needless to say my instincts were correct about this one.

I just wish Apple would do a better job when it came to cooling their systems, without the need to say that they'd have to "sacrifice the design", but for some reason they don't want to. Personally I find that insulting, especially when you're spending close to $2.5k on the system which comes with hardware that's around a year old.

I just installed a fan control program, and just set the fans to run full tilt all the time. Going to disconnect the Ethernet, put it on WiFi, and run WoW for awhile.

i find it so weird that my computer NEVER crashes during wow or another game.. it only crashes when im pretty much not doing anything or just reading a website
