The future of Siri

Yes, I've searched all the threads and couldn't find something exactly on point.

Obviously, Apple is using Siri as a selling point for the 4S.

My question is this:

Once the bugs are worked out and the selling point factor fades, will Apple allow the Iphone 4 to use Siri?

I know responses will just be a guess, but I'm just wondering what people think.
If you have reasons to support your position, that would be helpful.

Well since flying cars aren't everywhere as promised yet I'll guess Siri will be around for awhile.
 
I d/l Siri from the app store not too long ago and was using it until i updated to iOS5. After that, it no longer worked. Why they are using it just for the 4S I don't know. A marketing thing maybe? I mean, if it works, why not make it available on the iPhone 4? If it is a marketing thing, then I don't think it will be made available to the iPhone 4, just 4S and future product.

I very much doubt it.
 
No. Not on the iPad 2 either. Not sure why people don't look at history when considering these. New features introduced with a new device NEVER get put on an old device later.

Examples: video recording and voice control. Believe both were announced on the iPhone 3GS. Appeared in all future models, but none prior.

Everyone acts like Apple is such a mystery, but they're really not. They do things like clockwork. We (usually) know when new products will be released and what the cycle will be. We know it with computers, we know it with ios devices. There's no mystery.
 
I think when Siri gets further engrained into the OS it will in fact be available to iPhone 4 users. I'm guessing that by then the 3gs will no longer be supported, so it won't matter. I think Siri will def become a much bigger part of the OS in the future tho. Once APIs are released it will become really interesting!

Personally I believe that's not going to happen.

When has Apple ever enabled a feature for older hardware?

Can you Facetime on PPC? How about Leopard?

It's not going to happen on iP4.
 
Plain and simple, if they wanted it on the iPhone 4, it'd be on the iPhone 4. What better way to sell a $99 iPhone with Siri? So there's reason beyond what any of us know as to why it's not available for the iPhone 4. If you want Siri, it's easy, spend the $ to get it. Millions of people have.

We are talking about a feature on a phone....not a desktop. The difference between PPC and Intel macs are night and day, you are talking RISC vs CISC. Coding is completely different! iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S are identical....the 4S is just more powerful. But the CPU is inherently the same. Your argument is like saying you can't use FaceTime on a 2010 Macbook air...but you can on a 2011.
 
To add, Siri is like the Kinect. A very substantial product in its infancy. Once the APIs are developed and released, it'll interact with lots of apps, meaning able to obtain and understand more information. It will be amazing to see where this is in 2-3 years. Just as the Kinect. Minority Report is almost here!!

OR, since they still consider SIRI in wide beta, they are trying to keep the user base small while they get the bugs worked out...then once its butter smooth and their server is super fast they will roll it out to the masses.

Sorry, but the iP4 and 4S are not identical and the processors are not inherently the same. The A5 might be the same architecture as the A4, but they are quite different chips.

OR, they won't. Why drive sales to a lower priced phone? If they were any other company, yeah they would, just to move product. Not Apple. As long as millions of people are willing to upgrade to the 4S why give them a reason not to? They want people moving forward. And millions will and continue to do so as long as they keep mastering the user experience. I would bet a whole lot of money on this.
 
Why would they add a feature that is the new iPhone's main selling point? If they allowed it to work on the 4, people wouldnt buy new iPhones and they wouldn't be making more money.

Well, somebody already installed SIRI on an iPhone 4 and it works just fine..the only problem is, it can't authenticate to derive a response...the old CPU won't work excuse is TOTAL BS...just like iMovie won't work on iPad 1....it does.

Well, I disagree with this. People will buy the new iPhone because it has an amazing camera with HD video, replacing a point and shoot and flip...it is more powerful and will run new games better than the PSP...and of course the best part! The iPhone 4 is selling on ebay for more than the price of the 4S! I got my 4S for $299.....my phone is selling on ebay for $380....profit!

Oh, I never said it wasn't technically possible. I just said Apple won't allow it, because they don't enable new features on old hardware. That's not good business.

I disagree. It will certainly be refined for and available in new iOS devices going forward but it's not going to be made available for the iPhone 4 or any other older iOS devices except maybe the iPad 2. In short Siri on the iPhone 4 is not going to happen in the future.
