High-end workstations like HP Z8 G4 and Z6 G4 uses dual Xeons "Xeon Scalable processors". I hope Apple will follow the same trend, but it could increase the latency a little bit. When you think of the idea, there are dual AMD EPYC systems out there. AMD EPYC uses eight chiplets which are called CCX each one of them features an eight-core design, we have up to 16 CCX in a two-socket configuration, and they communicate over 128 PCIe lanes. Workstations need to be modular with expansions. They should allow you to add ram sticks graphics card SAS/SATA storage NVMe storage, this is a pro workstation product. Apple should use ECC memory in this thing. I hope they have two solutions, one with a single socket "Mac Pro Mini" for prosumers-enthusiasts with a reasonable base price and a True full tower "Mac Pro" for Pros.

I consider a multi-socket system to be rather unlikely, but I do see a slight possibility of modular compute boards that communicate with each other in NUMA fashion. Forget about third-party graphics card, that’s just not happening.

For some inspirations on how an upcoming Mac Pro might look like check out Nvidia Grace or the newly announced Xeons with HBM (which I suspect is primarily there to counter the Mac Pro).

My thoughts on this seem to differ to many, but I believe that for the foreseeable future, Apple will offer a ‘pro’ variant for each of their Mac lines.

The iMac Pro will simply be the 30” model.

The Mac mini Pro could simply be a higher-end mini, using the case design that Prosser’s renders depicted.

And the Mac Pro will retain the current chassis, albeit with Apple Silicon and AS graphics based on MPX modules.

As for the G4 cube inspired rumour… Potentially a machine based on the same processing power as the Mac Pro, simply minus the PCiE slots.

If they kept the same full tower design with apple silicon and with discrete apple GPU that's fine

I imagine it will be a very “Apple” way of doing things.

There will be pci slots or “pci compatible” slots, don’t know how many.
The CPU cores will likely be separated from the gpu cores somehow.
I imagine the “gpu” will actually be a handful of accelerator circuits for various tasks, a la the afterburner card.
