Phones The galaxy: GPS, overheating, sudden death, freezes, and still number one? How?

I lived with a captivate (galaxy s1) for a year which came with a faulty GPS unit (common issue with galaxy s series back then). I skipped the s2 because of that and the new exynos heating scandal....

Fast forward and while I did buy a s3, I kept it for 3 months only, not enough to experience these new sudden death (apparently fixed) and now the freezing (apparently coming from the fix). The s3 issues apparently arise from bad memory chips installed in them.

Now I know it was reported that NA S3s were immune, but looking at those 200+ page threads at XDA, it reminds me of the signature issues of the previous galaxies (attributing to cheap and faulty hardware).

The thing is, while I am looking forward to the s4, I wonder, what new big hardware issue is awaiting us? It is making me worried.

And, I am amazed at how Samsung is a behemoth now. I haven't heard of any big chronic issues with htc (except for battery, but with the one x that was taken care of IMO) yet they are the ship which is sinking, despite the stunning One.

Why?

I hope htc remains in business. I am a bit more inclined to buy the One now lol.

I've had my S3 for almost a year now and never had one issue with it. Sounds like you got a defective device.

Sounds like you worry too much. There is a thread in the iPhone section about iPhone 5's overheating. The iPhone 4 had those antenna issues. I'm not gonna let that stop me from getting the device I want. HTC devices have had their own set of issues too.

Yea my Tegra3 One X + overheats too but it's still a beast of a phone. So much so that I've decided to forgo the awesome HTC One and Galaxy S4 to wait & see what the end of the year brings.

Maybe the HTC Two X+ ..... lol

My GS3 is awesome. I've had it for 9 months now. I haven't encountered any issues that would make me think twice about buying it.

Yes, man-made products that go out to millions of people are bound to have some defective ones. Surprise...?

I have never had a perfect phone/tablet. The plastic on my 3GS was cracking after only a year, had a case on it, and never dropped it. My 4S had some awful wifi problems. iPad 2 had bad backlight bleeding. iPad 3 is super laggy. And my Nexus 4 has had touch input problems, backlight bleeding, and now weird GPU problems.

Just understand that whenever you buy a product on this earth, it is likely that it could have problems. Nothing on this earth is perfect. The knowledge that we as humans have probably isn't even 1% of all the knowledge in the universe. Just accept that things can go wrong with any technological device you buy.

I've heard the Nexus 4 underclocks the processor if it exceeds a certain temperature threshold.

Also, my iPad 3 also lags a bit on iOS 6.1.
