I've had two setups in the last year:

12 inch powerbook $1200
refurbished ipod mini $150
Portable speakers $50
Headphones $30
21 inch Gateway lcd $520

All purchase in 2005 for a total of $2000

Current Setup

15 inch tibook $250
2 extra batteries $65
2005 speakers and headphones $50 and $30

Total cost of my purchase $395

I guess I really like doing math with my spendings. If you do too, post your setup and how much it cost you at the time.

My Macbook cost me $1244 + tax and my Windows PC setup ran me more than $1500. It's safe to say that I am poor right now :)

Powerbook was ~ $2800 just over three years ago. Just think - the MBP is cheaper! Woooo.... if I only waited! :p ;)

Maybe you should have waited for santa rosa! Haha, if only we all just waited. I'm sometimes scared how fast technology moves, but it makes me lose a lot of money. Why couldn't I have gotten a better hobby? Like knitting!

That macbook pro will definitely last you 2 more years. I'm on a 4 year old tibook and I expect it to run Leopard just fine. Your computer will be no slower than today viccles!

What's the point of listing the price we paid for our Macs? Why don't we mention what we forgo when we purchase a Mac. Mention the opportunity cost, I guess.

I didn't go to Europe to get my iBook G4 and I didn't drink alcohol for a month to get my iMac G5.

If we were playing that game then I would probably have taken the lady on a trip somewhere. I'm glad she doesn't read this forum or else she would be convinced that my computer is more important than her (she doesn't need to know;) )

If you read this baby, only kidding:D

The secret to a happy man is convincing his girl is more important than is Mac.
ain't it tough......?

in the past 3 years:
mac mini: $599
lcd:$150
ipod mini: free
selling iPod mini: $175
ipod video: $200
TI-84 SE: $100
apple keyboard: $29

$805 really isn't terrible for 3 years, IMO.

im hoping this mac pro will be the last machine i buy or build this year, and hope i can stay with it for a while, i do 3d work, so i can never have to fast a machine to kick out renders. I just hope autodesk will drop a universal binary of maya soon (least dec when they drop their normal 8.1 updates) i got support but they havnt done anything thus far.

so far this year, with the new intel transition i have spent FAR to much money with apple! Mainly to see what upgrade path I wanted to take when the new intel machines came out, and see how windows version software worked on the mac.

got an iMac to see if i wanted to invest in upgrading my powerbook, but didnt like it enough so skipped, but i did buy a macbook, and enjoyed it as much as one can with the crazy restarts (painful when your encoding a dvd on a deadline!) but i was impressed enough with the speed to want a mac pro.

now i got the macpro -havnt bothered upgrading the graphics card/ram/hd- yet, plus i plan on getting 2 monitors to go with it.

ATI/BT/AP Mac Pro was something like $2900 with Ed. discount... Then $150 for some Altec Lansing FX6061 speakers. Then I got a 320 gig hard drive for $120, and a Logitech MX1000 mouse for $60. Oh, and the Viewsonic 20" widescreen monitor for $369. And I need to get my hands on a bluetooth keyboard still.

All prices in Canadian.

Exactly the same as me except for the ACD and 320GB hard drive. :D $150 Canadian is a really good price for those speakers! (assuming you meant FX6021, not 61)
