I've run all my work on various Macs over the years (old clamshell laptops, mini-macs and now a 2009 15" MBP) and decided to go out last night & buy a 21.5" iMac - I couldn't be any happier!
Great computer, easy set-up (as if I should have expected any less) and to top it off, the Specialist who helped me out at the Apple store saw my Bears shirt & hat and mentioned that he was from Chicago as well - the iMac sells at 1199 before tax so I was expecting to spend around 1300 total. After checking it out, I looked at my e-receipt and noticed that he'd given me his employee discount...1185 total after tax! SWEET!

Hi,

I got my very first iMac a few weeks ago. It's the base model but, besides 3% discount, I received 1GB RAM as a bonus.

My 21.5" monitor has the infamous yellow tint problem but as fas as I can judge it's mild. Noticed it 2 weeks after I got the computer while I was editing black-and-white picture in Aperture (the same picture looked a bit yellowish in the preview-bar at the bottom). I am calling the seller tomorrow to see what they can do for me.

My initial experience is mostly positive. I have used Windows for many years but the Mac is a different league. The wireless mouse & keyboard make a huge difference with any PC desktop machine. Finally my desktop is free of cables. I gave my Creative Labs 2.1 to my father. I find the iMac speakers OK for casual listening. For more serious auditioning I've got a pair of Yamaha HS-50M studio speakers which I can connect to the Mac via a Behringer mixer.

I work as a PHP programmer and the 21.5" monitor is a heaven for use with Eclipse. Too much space lost by the Eclipse's auxiliary panels and only a small frame is left for programming on the traditional 4:3 monitors, even the 19" ones. And, since it is a Unix-based OS I can organize my working files in the same way they appear on our web server and use shell scripts for deploying data.

As for picture editing, I find Aperture the program I've been longing to have for quite a time. I've got tons of RAW files from my leisure trips abroad which need to be processed but I have long postponed this work because my windows Photoshop used to take 10 seconds to open a 5MB RAW file. Right now I use the Aperture Demo 3.1.1 but intend to purchase the software from the app store.

Another program I'll use is Sibelius (music notation). The staves should look awesome on this big screen.

This computer has solved many problems I used to have. It's a computer which takes care of my needs instead the other way round as is the case with Windows. I don't really care where iTunes stores the CDs I import or where Aperture stores the master files. Heck I don't even know what those .app files are in their nature. I guess they are something like the .exe files but I may be wrong. I do not even know where the applications install themselves, nor do I care. I was pleasantly surprised when Aperture showed me the list of my iTunes playlists when I wanted to insert music to a slideshow.

I like some of Macintosh games available (I intend to buy Luxor the 5th passage). Of the PC games I mostly like the Civilization IV but since it is available for Mac I won't miss it. I don't intend to install windows on my mac. The farther I stay from that OS the better.

I purchased my iMac 27" almost 2 weeks ago.

After 5 days I noticed a dead pixel. Apple exchanged it no questions asked. They did a curbside pick up when I pulled up to the mall, parked, and went into the store. After about 10 minutes, I got my new iMac, along with an employee carting it back to my car. Needless to say, you won't get that kind of service anywhere else.

I love my iMac! The screen is amazing and seriously could not be happier. Been using Windows all of my life, and used Linux Mint for a small amount of time before I got the iMac. OS X is great and especially since I love the learning experience, I feel like a kid who just discovered life outside of his neighborhood.

Now I go on regular computers and it pisses me off I can't do magic mouse finger gestures.

Just picked up a 27" i3 to replace my dead Gateway laptop, the conversion was easy and I love my new machine! It's more computer than I need, but after a multi-generational love affair beginning with the Apple IIE, followed many years later by the original iPhone, the iPhone 3GS, and now most recently the iPhone 4, it was time to make the big commitment.

My only complaint is that I'm having to re-learn/consider re-mapping some of my keyboard shortcuts. I use Windows at work, OSX at home now, so I need to bridge the gap more effectively. I've just been too busy enjoying the system thus far. I really wanted to get the 21.5, but I have a 24" monitor that I recently bought for my now-dead laptop that I did not want to get rid of. And I didn't want it to be bigger than my main, beautiful, Apple monitor. So... 27"

Though I think I can hold out for a while now, I still find myself wanting an iPad... it's the damnedest thing.

Ordered a 27" iMac I7 on Wednesday of last week, and it'll be here tomorrow! As an avid Apple fan, I am beyond excited to add this machine to my collection.

Bought a 27" i3 iMac, it's astounding but I am probably going to return it to Best Buy and go grab a refurbished iMac off the Apple online store. Will end up saving me some money and even boosting the specs a bit!

So for the same 1699 I paid for the i3 I just ordered a i5 2.8ghz 57501gb 27" imac. Love the refurb store, will be returning this i3 to best buy. The i3 is an awesome machine in itself but for the same price I can't turn down the i5 true quad core and much upgraded video card.
