The iMac update needs to be rolled out, the sooner the better

I'm still on a PPC G4 Mac and this past week alone really shows how much I need a new computer.

Two freezes in a week while playing a YouTube video in Safari is a very scary experience when this is my primary machine. I have never experienced anything like this before on this machine for as long as I've owned it, going on 5 years now! I would expect two freezes a day on a beige box, even a new and shiny one, but since this Mac is as old as it is I guess I shouldn't be surprised. The hardware is barely hobbling while it's running modern software but it has served me well all these years.

Now because of the freezing, the other apps that I had open at the time: Mail, iCal, and iChat were also affected because of having to reboot my Mac. Mail's index was damaged and had to be repaired. It was repaired all right but not completely. I lost nearly two months of email! Now I have to delete all of my accounts then reenter the information and download my entire mail from gmail from the beginning!

Come on Apple, let's get these iMacs rolled out now! Please, pretty please!!! I'm ready to give you guys my $$$!

Yes .. it's a pain to be waiting iMac 2011 refresh. Every-time I hang out and see an Apple Store, i just go in and toying with 2010 iMac 27" which displayed in store.

Yes, my hands are itch, my wallet is vibrating, I just want to grab one and put it on my room and be done with it.

My PC at home is 6years old, and the monitor is 12years !! with no color change or degradation. What a tough monitor, but the cpu is very slow.

So yes, i'm waiting for new iMac, and since we're on near-end of 2010 iMac cycle, i decide to wait and see, which is a pain

At least please, Apple, give us a date !!

I've been waiting for a year just hope they change something in the imac look!!!
I have a 2007 and still works great so in no big rush. If no cosmetic change will wait some more. If not a pro or gamer which I'm not more speed is not so enticing.

Your 09 imac is fine. Why waste money on a slightly faster imac? Sometimes I think people just like to throw away their money.

Lol no. The USB ports are beginning to frequently trigger the "too much power" error message and the mini-displayport causes the external monitor to flicker as well.

I have ZERO reason to buy a new iMac, since my 2008 one is running fine...but it's always nice to have a new and even faster machine as a birthday present...

2 TB ports? Isn't 1 enough since you can daisy-chain up to 6 devices? Or are you planning to use >6 TB devices of which NONE is available right now and only a handfull are announced for the summer?

Let me guess, you didn't purchase Apple Care from the beginning? You do realize that Apple would have repaired those issues or perhaps give you a new iMac in exchange right?

I think that Chris realizes that device manufacturers will be taking advantage of TB asap with word being as early as this summer. However, he seemed to be pointing out how you stated that the iMac will ship with two (2) TB ports. Why do you believe that the iMac will ship with two TB ports and what evidence do you have to back that up?

Seriously wanting to jump the gun but I don't wanna get the crap end of the stick so I'm waiting. My MacBook is ok for now, but it's seriously messing with me since it starts slowing down if I use my intuos on it.

I was in the same boat as you in 2009 with my Mac mini. It was the original 1.42 Ghz G4 model. YouTube was a no-go, as was any sort of modern web browsing. It was a whiz with Photoshop CS2, but stalled out on YouTube. Go figure. I bought the 27" i5 iMac when it was first introduced but returned it quickly due to a bevy of QC issues. A year later, I got the 27" i7 iMac and it's totally free of defects. No flickering, hard drive rumble or yellow gradient.

The new iMac should be out in the coming months.

Two thunderports would possibly allow hooking up two external monitors. Maybe. Of course, until we know more about how Thunderbolt and graphics cards deal with eachother, we can't know whether this would work.

1 - Notwithstanding TB's excelent performance, two ports would make sense for high-bandwidth equipment such as HD displays and cutting-edge external GPUs;

2 - 2 TBs in iMacs would also accelerate the move towards TB in detriment of older FW solutions;

3 - I have zero evidence to back that up.

I just got my insurance money yesterday, so I'm ready to order an iMac the second it's in the Apple Store. All my music is stuck on a partition on my external harddrive (back up) and cannot be retrieved in windows :[

Download Linux Ubuntu and burn disc, then you boot from disc and start Ubuntu without installing it, then you can access the drive and recover wathever you want It's also great for partitioning.

I'd love a 30" display and seeing as its dreamland time I'm throwing in a 4k resolution display at that.

Also support for an external likewise 30" 4k display which has it's own superdrive connected through the thunderbolt. plus hdmi to hook in a tv and while i'm at it a second hdmi for a digital projector too.

Also support to add additional speakers to make up surround sound without wasting the inbuilt speakers. actually na ditch the speakers and lets have some swanky external speakers for a change.

I don't quite understand... If by temporary beige box you mean my temporary PC, then no. My dad put it together with some of his spare parts (He's not quite the Apple fan, as I am.)

That's exactly what I'm talking about. I think it would have sucked to have spent any amount of money on a temporary machine to hold you over between now and when ever you purchase the updated iMac.

Too bad that your father isn't as much a Mac fan as you are. Believe me, I know what that situation is like. I'm the only person in my family that uses Macs and once I made the switch, I refuse to go back. Though, I have to admit that the two main reasons why the people in my family, and many other people I know, refuse to switch to a Mac is because 1) Macs are expensive ("expensive" being a relative term) and 2) There is a learning curve to switching to a different platform. These two reasons being governed strongly by perception of course.

Well, I have been waiting and waiting. This was going to be my first mac in 10 years. This weekend my 3 y/o pc laptop died. I have work to do and I simply can't wait one more day. I'm quite upset really. I was really looking forwards to having the new iMac.

Now I'm trying to find out which sites I can order pc parts from here in Korea using my Canadian credit card and am going to just build a PC. I didn't want to, but I can't wait for who-knows-how-long for the iMac to finally be released.

I am tempted to buy a new MBP, but I will be doing a lot of editing with DSLR footage, so I was gonna buy a top of the line iMac. Oh yeah, they also lost out on me purchasing Final Cut Studio.

So frustrated and sad.
