After living with an iPad for the last few months, I've spent a great deal of time writing up my thoughts regarding the hardware, software, the iPad's impact on my life as well as the portable computing market overall in a series of 6 blog posts.

This took me a very long time, and has well over 8000 words in total. I'd totally appreciate it if anyone interested to have look at what I have to say, and hopefully provide your own thoughts and comments.

This is the first time I'm writing something like this. Don't be too harsh on me. ;)

TL;DR.

(Which, as a proud confession of illiteracy, at least has the merit of correctly using a semicolon.)

J/K. But I did skip to the bits about daily usage - chimed pretty well with my experience. I don't use streaming and remote logins as you do though - how genuine is that day of use, btw?

Altogether, an interesting read - cheers. :)

Nicely done young man. I just bought my Ipad and reading your experience is very helpful. Question: Why did you get the Wifi model and not the 3g? or do you teher (sp) your iphone to your ipad?

Pretty cool. I have been wanting to do something like that. I have spent a lot of time online, not just here...three or four other places, championing the iPad. I believe in the device...and feel that others will benefit as well...so, it's my duty to share. But, it is taking a lot of time to type up the same sort of comments in various places. So, I was thinking to do some sort of blog.

A couple of questions for you.

One...anyway to turn off the popup links? They are so annoying to read over.

Two...does that particular blog pay you when people read it? Just curious...not that I will definitely do the same...just have been wondering if it was possible to get paid for writing up my experience with things.

Thanks!

I already have an iPhone, and it is as you expected. I have jailbroken it so I tether my 3G connection. It works like a charm.

And thanks for the positive feedback. :D

Really well done! You should try to find a way to use that as a school project since you put so much effort into it. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you for reading it!

I don't think there are any popups. Maybe they came from another site.

Unfortunately, no. Wordpress is a free blog hosting site, so I'm not allowed to put up any Google ads on it. Blogging there is simply for hobby and not profitable in any way. If you start your own blog and pay for your own hosting, you can host ads too. :)

Wow, I hope you you never lose your iPad you'll be completely lost ;) good article

Haha, I sure hope I never lose it. Thanks for reading. :)

Are the images on this page Photoshopped? I can see that they were run through Photoshop CS5 on a mac, but were the screen shots 'added' artificially? The reason I ask is that the black level on the screen looks too dark. That, and the first one does not look aligned correctly. Oh, and there is light leakage surrounding the images and an absence of reflection. If so, its somewhat disingenuous to do this; especially considering that you praise the wide viewing angles on the iPad while showing these images. I can see the camera (Canon) had an aperture of 2.8, telling me that light might have been low, so I guess you did it becase of blurring / shutter speed?

Yes, those images are definitely added later. I'm not denying it either - you can see if you run it through Photoshop. The iPad was off at the time of taking the picture and when it came to when I had to upload it, I decided it would look better if I popped some screenshots on it. It's simply a decision I made on the spot.

Sorry if it made things confusing.

The point is that many viewers would not see the signs it was run through photoshop or how to read the EXIF data. To say this...

The iPad’s IPS technology allows for a bright and vivid image no matter which angle you’re looking from, so viewing angle is not a problem. Typing on the iPad is easy while it’s sitting on your lap.

and then offer a doctored image below to back up the claim is poor form.

Very nicely done - good job!

Thanks! :D

The IPS Display was specifically demonstrated in the hardware article with an unedited photo. But you do make a fair point about it being misleading - I'll remove that statement from the posture part. Thanks for your suggestion.

Great review! I held off initially getting one but the urge overcame me so a couple days ago I picked a 16 gig wifi up. Everything you said about your time with it is spot on, I have even noticed the same things and have only had it a (very) short time. Overall it was a very enjoyable read, and thanks much for the app reviews, I definitely snagged some of those:)

Good Review

though the girl in your avatar changed my life more than electronics has~

Nice work there. I had to re-orient my computer though. Its ok I understand that you're from New Zealand and you're upside down. :D

I lolled at this:

"I locate my mum’s iPhone. Huh, it turns out that she’s on her way back. She’s only a few hundred meters away from the house. I quickly turn off the music"

HAHAHA! I think I may agree with you on that one. ;)

lol, yeah. Find My iPhone is surprisingly useful for something like that.
