iPad Pro The iPad Pro 2018 model is not made for left handed people

As a disclaimer I know that ~5% of any given population are left handed. I am one.

I use a mouse with left and/or right hands. I was forced to adapt. All of my devices in my living room are plugged in on my left hand side. In my bedroom, multi plug outlet is on my left side.

So the power cord from my iPad(s) Pro are to my left and the pencil attaches to the bottom of the iPad. I do use a protective case with an elastic/velcro holder; more frequently though the pencil is just magnetically attached.

It's more of an irritation than anything else. But I would buy a 2019 model in a heartbeat if they had dual magnets or charging ports. Anf yeah, I know that ain't gonna happen.

And people at work never understood why my reflexive impulse was to shake w/my left hand

I don’t really understand your post. Is your Left-Handedness impacting your work?
I’m left handed as well but I never had such issues adapting to any device nor have I ever had any sort of impulse to use my left hand when shaking hands.

Why would you position your iPad Pro so that the magnetic connection for the pencil is on the bottom? The device can display the screen in any orientation that is desired. Why not just position it so that the pencil can rest/charge on the top? I’m not left-handed, but I am ambidextrous and so when I have my iPad Pro on a stand (as it is now) I just be sure to have the magnetic piece at the top (in landscape) and the on-off switch conveniently at my left side. Works a treat for me! That said, of course this is when I’m out on my deck or in the house using the iPad Pro without it being plugged in, as it is still new enough that I don’t have to worry about running out of battery power all that soon. Even when I DO need to plug it in, not a big deal when using a long (2m) cable to connect it so that there is room for the cable to reach to the charging port..... On the deck I have a multi-port surge protector with plenty of reach and in the house, pretty much the same situation as well. The charging port does not need to be at my left in order to do its work as long as I have a long enough cable and surge protector unit.

I have no issues with the iPad Pro. Even certain software allows me to move the controls to the left side.
Charging can be awkward with power points on the left whilst the charging point is on the right but hey.... that’s no fault of the iPad.

#1 - "ambidextrous" is slanderous of left-handers as it means "both right"
#2 - The OP stated his reasons. Having his chargers, and thus cords, on his left mean that they have to wrap around the back of the device to reach the port if it is used in landscape with the "default" (Apple's and the right hand world's) orientation. Holding the device with the port on the left would be much more convienient.

I'm a rabid lefty (see #1 above) and have a massive dislike for a wide range of mice that are extremely right handed and will take online reviewers to task if they give a positive review of one without adding a disclaimer that they are for righties only.

That said, I use a MS Surface Go daily. It is dominantly right handed, by the OP's standards, when used in landscape mode due to camera, kickstand, and keyboard connector placement. I rarely use it hand held and plugged in so the power port placement isn't and issue for me. In fact, I never even thought about it having any handedness before. I prefer its right side headphone jack as I prefer headphone cords on my right to give my dominant left hand clearance. My old Dell Venue 8 Pro annoyed me with its left hand side jack.

I can see the issue and it is disappointing the change has been made. And as dwig mentioned, mice are often worse (but thankfully not Apple mice yet, but they are not good in other ways). But at least they are not as bad as the new Asus Zenbook Pro Duo laptops that have put the trackpads on the right!

And it is is a worse situation than even the OP thinks. Studies suggest 10% of people are left-handed, not 5%.

Many people dismiss the concerns of left-handedness as not a real issue, but there are higher rates of accidents due to working with objects designed for a right-handed person. There is maybe not so much concern with injury on an iPad, but there more chance of dropping it.

And I grew up being called cack-handed, meaning clumsy or inept. It derives from the word cack, which means excrement. It was common to remove their own cack with the left hand, and eat with the right, for hygiene reasons, and is still the case in some cultures.

So, um, it’s not the fact you’re left-handed, it’s that your power outlets are to your left? I mean, I’m left-handed, have the iPad Pro 2018 and don’t have issues, so what do cables have anything to do with being left handed?

Perhaps your solution could be a 2m cable? I read your post twice and still don’t get it.

I'm left-handed too. I also feel the urge to shake hands with my left. I use my right hand to carry things, leaving my left one free, so always have to transfer things across when it's necessary to shake hands. I was trained to use a mouse on the right and still do now (even though it's wireless) and find it more convenient as I can carry on typing comfortably one-handed, with my dominant left.

I think the design of the pencil docking on the most recent pros is a bit lazy and un-Apple-like. I would have thought that all four sides would have had the charging capability to allow for everyone's taste and the orientation they use their iPad in at any given time.

I think it's really interesting how different our experiences and preferences are. I have all of my things plugged in on the right-hand side so it's all out of my way and my left side is unfettered and free for 'defence' or other 'ninja like' things...

I use my left hand for my mouse but I don't flip the mouse buttons. I had a left-handed coworker come over and use my computer and he was so confused for a short bit.

The idea of that just made me feel weird! Then I had to try it - it's doable (the mouse part) but the typing single-handed with the right hand is a no go...
