iPad Pro The iPad Pro needs to indicate when its Fast Charging

With all these iPadOS Updates a small but important notification is absent.
Just tried my buddies 87Watt MAcBook Pro Charger and while yes it charged faster. There is No Icon or Notification to let you know that it is Fast Charging.

Why ?

My Note 9 indicates Fast Charging
My iPhone XSMAX indicates Fast Charging.

Why has Apple dropped the ball here.?

Why ? The omission

We have no way of knowing if the Fast Charger is operating properly and actually Fast Charging. Even the 87 Watt chargers is capped at 29W that’s all Apple will allow the iPad Pro to accept. Same for the 30W Nintendo Switch Charger which works as well.

Oh well maybe it’s included in iPadOS.

How does your phone let you know?

To answer the overall question; Well, how do you define fast charging? It's really just a marketing term. Charging is a spectrum, so such a notification would have to have some sort of specified threshold for how much wattage should be delivered to activate it. So where do we draw that line?

I wouldn't recommend fast charging though. Too fast isn't good for the battery longevity. It's good if you need a quick burst, but if you're leaving it over night anyway, go slow.

It’s in notifications once plugged in or placed on a wireless fast charger it says so.
 
I have not noticed my 11" iPad Pro charging faster when I connect it to my MBP 15" 2018 charger. Seems to be about the same on my 32W, 60W, and 87W USB-C chargers. Since USB-C devices have Power Delivery negotiation I assumed the iPad Pro just requested the same volt/amp combination and went with that.

Why? There doesn’t need to be.
No ball was dropped. It’s personal preference.

You’re, once again, making much ado about nothing.

I really don't think so. You may have to provide a little more detail on that unless you have a version of iOS that no one else has.

I'm pretty sure in iOS11 and maybe early 12, my iPhone X would make two vibrate notifications when first connected to a fast charge. That has since gone away and there is nothing on the display.
It would me nice if Apple added a battery icon with 2 lightning bolts or made it bold, etc.
 
The ONLY indicator for fast charging is a double “ding” on the iPhone (but only when phone is locked).

iPads do not have this feature

I suspect that Apple limited the charge rate to 29W for a good reason.

Both my 9.7 Pro and 12.9 Pro iPads do the double ding when I plug them into my 29W charger. I didn’t know why they did this until I saw your post. But that would mean the iPads do have this feature.

Irrelevant topic and no,not even the iphone has a fast charging notification
Iphone is limited to 18W and the ipad pro at 27W-29

Sorry to hijack the thread, Ive just learned from this thread that fast charging is not good for the battery. I use my nintendo charger all the time since it charges faster and I thought the apple charger was damaged since the usb end was accidentally drowned in soup. But then I learned that apple capped the wattage so i guess I should be okay to keep using the nintendo charger?

It’s no problem. iPad “fast” charging is more like “normal” charge speed after generations of devices that shipped with under-powered chargers.

Within reason, a slower charge will "always" be better for longevity.

If you have an extra slower charger at hand, using it for long charges may be preferred, but I wouldn't go out of my way for it if I were you. The charging tolerances are set within reasonable limits for each relevant device, so if the charger correctly negotiates power draw, like I'm sure a Switch charger will, it's not likely to damage longevity very much at all.
Maybe after 9 years, the battery health will be at the same level it would've been at after 9 and a half with a slower charge. Hardly super important.
