Greetings,

My iPhone has broked! I need to fix this (I hate the 3g iPhone's feel in my hand, sadly. and live in BFE so I can't use 3g).

The pics are below. The touchscreen still works, just can't use the very topmost part (can't click "confirm" to install packages in Cydia, but can still navigate menus and iPod).

How can I fix this? Are the http://cgi.ebay.com/100-Genuine-iPhone-Glass-LCD-Screen-Replacement_W0QQitemZ380067967146QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item380067967146&_trkparms=72:1205|39:1|66:2|65:12|240:1318&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14 screens enough to do the trick?

That ebay Auction is the glass only, I really cannot tell you wether the LCD is damaged or not, thats somthing only you can tell but if it is you have to replace the whole LCD screen at the cost you can just buy another off ebay (Iphone 1G.)

The LCD I think is fine, but how can I tell? It displays everything well, digitizer (i think that's the touch part?) works fine too. If I pry off the rest of this screen can I attach the glass one to it?

In addition, I've taken it apart, but that didn't prove to be much use to me. How do I tell if the LCD is fooked? And if it's in good shape, will just the glass piece work?

Here's a couple more pics of it, if they help

you are looking at a repair cost of about 170 plus shipping

1g iphones are extremely expensive to fix

It is very complex to replace only the glass, the lcd and the glass are glued together... I think the best you can do is go to an apple store and pay 200 bucks and give your phone for a new one...

My girlfriend dropped her 3g iphone, cracked the screen, put it on ebay, got 350 dollars for it. Went to At&t, told them what happened, got a new one for the discounted rate. They did not even question. The only catch was that she had to sign a new contract, which she signed 2 months prior.

I would recommend this option.

I would suggest that you get in contact with a third party repair service such as Rapidrepair.com
I had a serious 'dead strip' problem with my touch screen and they fixed it up and had it back to me within a few days.
