For some songs, its hardly noticeable, but for others its a different story. If I switch the left bud to the right ear, and visa versa, its very apparent (so eliminates the possibility that my hearing is lop sided).

Has anyone else experienced this? Should I contact Apple?

Plug another set of headphones in and if they are alright, then go to Apple and replace the headphones. If they have the same problem then go to Apple and
replace the iPhone. If you don't have another set then go to Apple. :)

That seems to be a common issue with apple branded headphones. Try plugging in other headphones, (has always worked for me) and you can test those headphones by trying them in your mac, and sliding the output balance from left to right, if it's the buds, then you'll know from if the all left output is significantly louder than the all right output. I'd imagine its just the earbuds.
