I'm going to dig for awhile to find it, but some time ago I noted that the AGPM kext had entries for GT120 and GTX260. I postulated that a Mac GTX260 must have been in the works in past, but it never came to fruition.

So FedEx shows up with a box from NorCal the other day and GUESS what was inside it?

The OEM Apple GTX260 !!!

Complete with MiniDisplayPort and Apple PArt Numbers !!!

The ROM is unique and offers some fixes to issues on cards we couldn't flash well before.

It is somewhat buggy in that MDP doesn't work unless connected at boot, ie, no hot plug detect.

We all wondered why it took so long for Nvidia GTX285 to show up. While we did miss out on MDP, the Dual DVI GTX285 is quite a bit faster.

Would love to know the full story but my friend from up North is being quite SILENT on details.

Simple story, there was a Mac Pro update that never shipped.

I've heard of one other card that has the same story.

(Actually, I bet the other card I've heard of was buddies with this one.)
 
I'm just going to point out, that Apple does go thru several revisions when updating their hardware especially when trying to decide between vendors (i.e. Nvidia vs AMD). It is very possible that several of these were made when Apple was deciding what Vendor to go with in 2010 and ended up going with the 5770 instead of the Nvidia 260....

This of course is simply a guess....

Apple doesn't necessarily inform their GPU vendors in advance of what their plans are. It's been unclear to me if this is because Apple has both NVidia and ATI working on cards so they can pick the best option in the end, or because the GPU vendors are truly totally in the dark. This having an Apple part number makes it seem that it was something actually evaluated by Apple.

Other cards I have heard of were simply abandon because the OEM didn't want to produce it themselves, and Apple didn't want to start producing new cards without an actual Mac Pro revision.

No new Mac Pro means no new cards. So any cards worked on since 2010 have never seen the light of day.

The GTX260 seems like it would have been evaluated for an older revision when the Mac Pro was still being updated now that I think about it.

So are you saying that their picture that stops robots "doesn't look like anything to you"?

Because if so, I have some really bad news for you. :rolleyes:
