The headphone output on the 16" M1 Max MBP is insane. Has no problem competing against $2000 external DAC + amps. The 16" M1 Max MBP is cheap what you get for it.

The 16" M1 Max MBP is literally the best laptop ever made.

Apple needs to make the 3.5mm low/high impedance switching headphone jack standard, but also bring back the optical output functionality...

…Interested about internal DAC. I just knew the “amp” part and jack can deliver to high impedance devices, which is a good thing.
BUT, we don’t know about the dac. AFAIK, “Midi Setup Utility” still offers up to 96kHz resolution. It’s nice, but far from external i/o specs Logic can work with (e.g.)
I use an external cheap Topping d10 dac for music listening that is better than internal dac in my iMac.
What do you know about DAC in new MacBooks?

The feature you pointed, just better driving of earphones or external amps is a good one. But it has nothing to do with dac specs.

I have no idea what DAC is being used in these new MacBook Pro's but I must say I'm super impressed by what Apple did with headphones like the Sennheiser HD 800S and the Sennheiser HD 650.

It doesn't rival my $10000 external DAC + amp ofcourse, but that is a super high-end one.

Because it has no weakness. Class leading performance, with no fan noise when pushed to the limits, class leading battery life, amazing display and by far the best internal DAC + amplifier you will find on any computer.

My thoughts exactly.

Didn't take long to find a video talking about the headphone jack. I'm sure there's more out there.

I disagree. I have a lot of high end audio gear and, while the sound straight out of the Macbook Pro is quite a bit better versus what one would expect from a laptop, it is still nowhere near as good as my Chord Hugo 2.
