Since I upgraded to ML from SL on my early 2008 imac, my mac never goes to sleep, not the display, nor the mac.
Changing energy settings does't change a thing.

Never had any issues like this in SL.
Anyone else experiencing these problems on this type of imac ?

Thx, I'll have a look.
Still, even when I am downloading files, running iTunes, indexing or whatever, at least I should be able to put the display to sleep...

You might try a SMC reset.

Also try the below command in Terminal. It will show running processes that are keeping your Mac awake. Normal processes will be followed by 0 and those keeping the machine awake will have a 1.

Code:
pmset -g assertions

@Weaselboy : ran the command in terminal, all 0...

As for the SMC reset, I shut down AND pull the plug from the mains every day...

Peace of mind ?
It's perfectly safe to leave your Mac on for many months at a time. Many users only use sleep mode, restarting only when a Software Update requires it. There is no need or benefit to shutting down every night, other than saving a few pennies worth of electricity.
