Before i start, let just say this...

I love apple products and i think they are the best on the market. dollars to donuts, 9/10 times when i buy an apple product i have confidence i'm getting a great product thats going to be reliable and dependable for years.

That said, this past november with the Ipad Pro's, i thought it was love at first site and if you told me id be buying and returning these damn things on and off for months i would have called you crazy.

in fact, i feel like i am going crazy with my OCD (genuine medically diagnosed OCD) btw.

Ive had both sizes of the pro and loved each one, but that god dam bending issue has me totally paranoid to no end.

One i put in an otterbox defender case and it bent INSIDE THE CASE!

So i was like, ok, lets try the air and the mini...simular specs, etc..

All great machines, dont get me wrong, but felt like a step backwards and i much rather have the pro..but this bending issue.

here is what i am thinking and want your advice on this.

Say i just buy a pro (11 or 12 inch model) and put it in the Brydge Keyboard and use it strictly like a laptop. I never once take it out of it and it never really even leaves my desk. The dam thing should not break then right?

I mean i need a tablet and i love the pros, but this bending issue is just nagging the hell out of me!

if i turn this into a laptop and use it as such, IT SHOULD NOT BEND RIGHT...

I mean how many times have you just bent the top of a laptop screen? rarely if ever right?

and now with IpadOS turning it more into a laptop in the fall...

I really just wish apple used a stronger grade of aluminum or even went with another material for the price your paying and i had 100% confidence in it.

maybe the next versions will be stronger in a year or so?

No. If your Pro bent inside an otterbox defender case, then it will certainly get damaged by the Brydge keyboard. That pinching hinge design is going to cause issues down the road.

I don't understand the appeal of a keyboard accessory that is intended to be attached and not be regularly removed. If you're going to use your iPad Pro 100% of the time as a laptop, why not get a Macbook Air? Technically the Brydge could be removed and re-attached but it causes issues with non-tempered glass screen protectors.

I'm a huge fan of using tablets for double-duty. That is why something like the Brydge is a non-starter for me. That is why Apple's keyboard folio is a non-starter for me. The ASK cover for the 1st and 2nd gen Pros were terrific, IMO. It was dead easy to pop off the ASK and use the iPad as a tablet.

I agree with @sracer here for sure. If you are dead set on an iPad for desk use only, I’d get a stand for the device and a Bluetooth keyboard with a good on/off switch to quickly cut the connection without having to disable Bluetooth on the device.

How did you manage to bend it inside a case? Did you sit/lean/push on it have it in a backpack with pressure on it or have you made an enemy of Uri Geller?
 
I'm not sure I understand this post. Are you saying you actually have been buying and returning iPad Pros because they bent? Or is that just something you're worried about. If the latter, they don't bend too easily with ordinary care, so I wouldn't worry about it. If the former -- i.e., you've actually been bending them -- I would suggest switching to something else that works for your lifestyle.
 
I have to say, I had a Brydge before for a Surface Pro 6, great keyboard but did feel there was far too much pressure on the screen.

I received one for my iPP 12.9 last week and it doesn't feel like there is as much pressure on the screen and certainly as long as your careful when opening / closing it (I carefully open to make sure there's no stress on the hinges), I can't see why its going to cause an issue.

Why bother with an iPad if it’s going to sit on a desk?

And for what it’s worth, I (gently) toss my 11” into my bag daily to go to work and back. No bending. Typing on it now.

Im thinking about getting an 11 inch with a brydge and using it as a laptop esp with IpadOS coming out, and later on getting a mini as a portable ipad!
 
Use iPad Pro as a Stand alone single device without Case or anything, use the Onscreen Keyboard or at the most a Bluetooth Keyboard, if you are dead sure it will not leave the Desk. Should have less exposure to bending possibilities that way.
 
dude you're sick. just wait for a few months then maybe apple changes the alloy for the new iPad pros.
 
You've bent multiple iPads?! HOW? I have never bent an iPad. I don't use cases and while I'm not throwing them down stairs or anything, I'm not coddling them either
 
Unless you want a keyboard/cover to get a notebook-esque experience when out and about, my vote would be to get a simple iMac-esque stand for the iPP and a separate BlueTooth keyboard. I rather like my inexpensive Logitech K380 keyboard, particularily its ability to pair with 3 devices (Window, macOS, iOS, and/or Android) and switch quickly between the two. With a simple stand, you can easily pick up the iPP and move to the couch for hand-held surfing there w/o having to deal with the attached keyboard.

The 11” iPad Pro is weak structurally. It bends with every day use (mock all you like). There’s plenty of YouTube videos proving this ... the weak points are the mic holes and the Apple Pencil charging connection on either side.

I'm not disagreeing but rather curious to see this statement. The pinching design is going to be deform the iPad in some respects?

The pinching design puts constant pressure on the glass that the iPad wasn't designed for. (No cover or case that Apple produces for their devices uses that design) That's the first potential for problems. But perhaps a greater cause for concern is the affect of the pressure placed on the iPad when opening and closing the keyboard case. That could cause stress-related weakening of those areas.

There have been more than a few reports by Brydge owners of issues caused by the case. Some might attribute that to a defect/flaw in a particular iPad, caused by the Brydge itself, or a combination of both. Then there are the puzzling issues that arise 12+ months down the road that may (or may not) be caused by the Brydge.

Given the other negatives of this keyboard case, I don't see that it is worth the increased possibility of damage to the iPad.

I have setup over 10,000 iPads and currently manage 7500 and have had zero ( big 0 ) bent iPads.
