I played it all night on launch day (when they just rolled out the Oceanic 1 server) and it is such a beautiful/addicting game. However, it all went downhill from there because of EA and the servers.

Point of the matter is: Do not buy this game until the servers are seamlessly working 24/7. They should have prepared for this, but you know, it's EA.

I don't think EA has ever been prepared for any game launch. Even with other games that they know will be huge launches, like say Battlefield, they knew better and still botched the launch day with their crappy servers. Took them awhile to get that sorted out. So no shocker here. Hopefully things will be better by the time the Mac version launches.

It should definitely be better by the time it arrives on the good ol' Mac. The reason why this is just so frustrating is because it is a single player game and you should have an option to either be online or not. I mean, you can't even save unless you are connected to their well known piece of crap servers.

It's really quite a pity. Planned on doing some videos on how EXCELLENT it performs on the 15" Retina, but at least there's Tomb Raider.

Update:
EA has hired hundreds of Chinese spammers to post positive comments about DRM.

EA is digging themselves even further and further into a hole.

It's kind of discouraging, as watching videos of other people play had me interested in getting it (there is a 2 hour live gameplay video on YouTube from IGN). But with all these problems, I think I'll wait. I have a PC that I just use for some games, so if I know for sure that I can also get the Mac version later if I get the PC version, then I might pick it up at a later time. The purchase of the game should be tied to your Origin account, so it should be available to you across both platforms. In theory anyway.

Oh my gosh, lol. I just followed the link from a nicely retweeted tweet, haha. I still believe it though because, you know, EA.

Also the PETA whaling thing is a real issue: http://www.polygon.com/2013/3/6/4070836/peta-objects-whaling-in-assassins-creed-4 (very trusted source).

It wouldn't surprise me if EA actually did that.

Agreed, I throughly enjoyed the 20 or so hours I've already put into the game. Now I can't log in to play the game :(

So Excited for this game! How would it run on a base iMac? On top of that where can I snag a copy of windows 7/8?

played probably a total of 13 hours and like it so far. Sucks about the server issues but whatever, hopefully they fix the problems soon! I feel like the region play is messed up because I have a university and none of the other plots have access to all the education modules.

My question is, has anyone played the game in bootcamp with a 2011 15" macbook pro? My buddy is thinking of getting the game but im a little worried about the performance. I'm running on a 670 mac pro with everything maxed out and it's a beautiful game!

It should be fine on a 2011 15". The system requirements are actually quite low.

It should work fine on any current Mac out there. IGN managed to get it to run on a Surface Pro (on low settings, but still), so almost any Mac should be fine.

SO SO SO frustrating !!!!!

Log in and then get server error all the time !!! So much for they'll have them sorted for European release.:rolleyes:

If anything this should stand as testament that NO game should require online connection and furthermore the training campaign should not require a server...

Hate that I've spent €59.99 on a game that I can not play.........

Just hope we can actually play it by the time it releases... so far on PC I haven't been able to actually play ANY game including the getting started campaign :(

SimCity on 2010 i7 Macbook Pro

My question for you guys is how is this game going to run using windows XP on my bootcamp Macbook pro. I have the Nvidia 330m 512mb graphics card and i'm wondering if its even worth trying to play on my Mac or am i just going to be frustrated with the graphics performance? I'm not a huge gamer but enjoy the SimCity franchise. I don't need all the graphics settings to be cranked but I also don't want it to look like complete poo.

Thanks guys.

With the colossal mess that they are having right now with server issues, I am sure they are not keen to open up a another flood of new users by releasing the MAC SKU at this time. Amazon even temporarily suspended sales.

I got fooled into buying the PC version

At the bottom of the Buy page, it shows the Mac requirements.

Since there's only one download option "PC", I assume that's the one I need. I followed through on the purchase and after getting ready to download, it says PC only.

I'm seriously pissed off, I fell victim of false advertising. I'm not even sure I can use the version I bought even when the Mac version comes out. Likely not. There's no way in hell that I'm going to install windows just for this.

EA makes it near impossible to speak with anybody about this issue. My only recourse is to charge it back on my VISA. Let's see what the VISA resolution centre says in the morning.

Having the mac client come later is a blessing. We won't have to deal with ****** servers.

Does anybody know how to rotate an object using the Apple wireless keyboard? (no number pad)

For PC, I believe its the End and Home keys but the Apple keyboard doesn't have that. Someone suggested fn+ right or left arrow but those are already mapped to move your view in the game.

and to those trying to run in Parallels, give it up and run it in Bootcamp. HUGE difference!

A users review which actually makes good reading ....... Just not for EA& Maxis..

So, in this iteration of the game, you don’t even get to buy your toy. Rather, you rent a toy from EA, who lets you play with it only in very limited, circumscribed ways, only on their servers. So you have to have a live Internet connection at all times, and their servers have to be up, and have to have space for you. And the rules for play are draconian. If you want to, say, build a city, save it, blow it up with something terrible, and then restore from save, you can’t do that anymore. That’s an unauthorized usage of their toy. And if you figure out ways of using their toy that they don’t like, they’ll ban you forever.

All third-party modding is shut out. One of the best parts of SimCity 4 and The Sims is that users can create and share content among themselves for free. You will no longer be able to do this. You will be required to run only Official Authorized Content.

Further, you’re not getting the whole game for your $60 or $80, depending on what version you’re buying. EA’s plan is to sell you Simcity 5 over and over and over. They’ve directly admitted that they already have it running with larger cities, but they’re not releasing that now. They claim it’s because it “won’t run on Dad’s PC”, but the real reason is so they can sell it to you again later. Want subways? That’s gonna be $20. Want railroads? Another $20. Bigger cities? Oh, that’s in the $30 expansion.

Right now, if you look at The Sims 3, the game costs $30. But if also you buy all the DLC for it, it’s four hundred and seventy dollars. This is what they are doing with SimCity 5; locking you into their server infrastructure, and then exploiting the heck out of your wallet.

This is a lousy deal, and you would be stupid to take it. Always-on DRM, and a deliberately crippled game, so that they can slowly uncripple it, charging you for every restored feature from prior versions.

Simcity 4 still works pretty well. It’s not quite as nice as most current games, and can require you to ‘pin’ the process to just one processor on a multi-core system (ie, most current machines), but if you want a city builder where you won’t have to pay extra to breathe both in AND out, that would be a better option.

But buying this game? In my opinion, you would be wiser to take three twenties out of your wallet, and light them on fire.

I didn't even realise they had dropped subway & railroad building!!! Mind I haven't been able to actually play the game since installing it!!!! .............

This is not how to reboot a franchise.
