As the question states, do you think the new airpods wireless charging case will be sold as a replacement to the current Airpods charging case in addition to being a standalone add-on between now and the end of year 2018? Thinking whether or not getting Airpods now is not as good as getting it later.

I Recall your previous thread were you found a pair of new AirPods for $140. I wouldn't wait to purchase the AirPods based if Apple will include the new charging case or not, which even if they do include the new charging case for the Airpods later in 2018, you would need to factor if you would want to purchase a wireless charging mat.

I personally find the current Charging Case via lightning capabilities, is more than enough to charge it quickly and the new charging battery case is a non-seller for me, unless I wanted the AirPower.

A full charge on my case lasts me a few days, and I use my AirPods for 4-5 hours daily.

I Wouldn’t bother with the new case. It’ll barely get used.

depends, does the wireless case do away completely with lightning? then apple wont include them with new airpods. if it does still have lightning also, then its 50/50 - buy now and enjoy, if anything the case will be the only update for at least a year

Agree, the day when there’s only wireless charging on all devices at home I would consider it.
Would probably be a few years until that happen. Will probably be a new version of AirPods then too.

It’s as easy as anything to charge the case, with or w/out AirPods in it, on any of my chargingdocks
for iPhone & iPad.

To actually answer the question rather than whether you think it’ll be useful - yes I think it’ll be the standard as soon as they are readily available. makes no sense to sell the normal ones and then an expensive extra box. Especially when they want you to buy their AirPower solution. And accessories don’t sell well, so keeping it as an option is more expensive for Apple than just rolling out as standard for all users and keeping the option there for existing users to upgrade

I don’t know why they didn’t just come out and say that - I guess to avoid people holding off on purchasing AirPods while waiting for the new case? But you’ll then just end up with pissed off people that buy AirPods just before they come with the wireless case as standard
