with all the space there is , they decided to put it in a small box (spotlight) and horizontally, whilst killing launchpad altogether

imo it would have been much better if we got something akin to ipadOS (very ugly image but you get the idea) . current implementation is useless and painful

or heck, even something like the second image

for the 100th time. Apps folder in the dock. Set to grid mode. Looks exactly like the first picture you posted. Put your apps in whatever folders you want.
Yeah I did exactly that, only it was 2009, on Snow Leopard, because launchpad didn't exist yet. Is that progress??

lots of people here must think so, as they endlessly clamor for things to be brought back 🤔. if apple thinks launchpad has run it's course, then that's what happens; so yes, progress. and personally, am ok with it (& i lived on launchpad) ☺️

When I try this I cannot move things to folders. The view is the same as I get in the new default applications folder, with no customization.

i find the replacement for launchpad to be effective, fast, functional. thought i'd miss launchpad too, but... i don't 🤷
Out of curiosity, what is fast or functional about it compared to Launchpad. I had all of my apps in a single row of folders, with my most common used apps in the first folder. Getting to an app was literally 3 clicks away. Now, I have to either scroll down the list, filter then scroll through default apps I never use, or type the app name. It is hardly functional for me (unless there is an option I am missing).

No argument that the new Launchpad is pretty weak. For those that haven't tried it though, try ⌘-space then start typing the app name. It typically finds the app I want within 1-3 characters, then hit return to open it. It's much faster than Launchpad for me.

I agree. Previously we had 3 different methods for launching apps, Launchpad, Spotlight and the Applications folder. Now this has been simplified into 2.

An ability to pin some favourite apps to it would be useful but apart from that I like how it's now integrated into Spotlight.

i invoke the finger swipe (as i did with launchpad), or hit command-spacebar (i seem to randomly do either one).

i start to type (for example) 'saf' and safari comes up, i hit return and am in. it's so simple....

For me as a 95% mouse user it is a BIG, VERY BIG deterioration that I cannot go in my active corner to see all my apps organized by ME.
BIG, VERY BIG.

And what´s the point of removing launchpad? What is Apple´s benefit? 10kb less code in OS?
Why are they doing this bad move?

It´s for sure one of the reasons I will stay on Sequioa till there are no security updates.

it's a step forward, it's change; this happens regularly with mac os. meanwhile, you could make a folder (in documents, for example), drag your needed apps (from applications) into that; you'll have aliases then.

drag that folder into your dock, and you have a place you can customize, and click on to get to all your apps 👍

No. It is a step backwards. They have stolen the "homescreen" of the Mac.
And thx..I know all these workarounds where I have atleast one click more to get to the app I want to open.

I find it faster to just use Spotlight to launch everything anyway, but it seems to me you could do this same thing by creating your own main and sub folders and placing alias files of all your desired apps in them, then placing the main folder in the Dock.

in your opinion, got it. and if you know of these workarounds, why not go for it? then you'll be able to get back to work 👍

I'll agree that this isn't as intuitive, but you can't rearrange items in folders that you are accessing from the Dock.

You need to open the Applications folder in the Finder. There you can create folders however you want. The new folders will be reflected when you open the Apps folder in the Dock.
