And the the goodness flow from our friends at the evil empire! There will be a new good branded Chromebook it will cost the same as the older ones, it looks pretty sexy and comes with massive internal storage (for a Chromebook). Jeebus its going to be an expensive fall/Christmas/New Year

I have a 2015 chromebook pixel, and even two years later imo it's still by far the nicest chromebook out there (hence the initial price when it released).

Interested in this new model. Although there's really nothing I dislike about mine now. Maybe better speakers. Maybe they put a tb3 port on these new models.

I'm not too familiar with Chrome OS besides running it out of curiosity on a VM. Why would one pay over 1k, and need that much storage for it?

I've got a OG Pixel and I have a 70% full 128GB SD card filled. It's got music, doc's, research, and some movies. Believe it or not Chromebooks are not all online and with the drop dead simplicity of running the distro of your choice in crouton while running ChromeOS at the same time. I want a very nice laptop that runs Linux without drama that to me is worth the 1K price point. The alternative is this https://system76.com/laptops/galago and the Pixel is in every way a nicer computer.

I've always said every time the debate goes to Pixel isn't selling well that the evil empire doesn't intend to sell a ton it's a phone for nerds by nerds, the Chromebook Pixel is very much the same a computer for nerds by nerds.

Well honestly i bought mine used because yeah 1k for a chromebook seems exorbitant. And it is honestly.

Basically it's how nice of a chromebook do you want. The chromebook pixel (mine a 2015) has a significantly higher than normal touchscreen display (2560 x 1700), backlit keyboard, a true i5 broadwell cpu processor (the LS models have an i7), 8 gb RAM, and it's a solid block of aluminum basically. Trackpad is pretty precise, keyboard is really nice imo. At the time it was pretty advanced with a usb c port on both sides that can charge from either side, as well as support a 4k monitor, and has usb 3.1 type A ports as well as a sd card slot. Battery life has been really good, can get over 12 hours pretty easily, and now you have access to the google play store apps too. So it's quite versatile, basically a higher end laptop replacement if you don't need a lot of ssd space. But with these newer ones offering 128gb base, that's quite a step up. Obviously the appeal of running Linux on it too.

Do you run a light distro on your Pixel?

I have a old ASUS Q200E (Intel i3 1.40GHz and 4gb Ram). Ubuntu struggles on it now. I haven't messed with any bare distro for a while, and don't plan to, cause I'm rusty at compiling drivers and don't feel like doing a ton of research.

I'm had my eye on the Samsung Chromebook Pro. But even that price has me hesitant.

I've honestly never run into problems multitasking. I average probably around 10-15 tabs in chrome, some podcasts playing, some light editing, watching videos etc. I'm not a super power user but I've never seen this thing slow down. No problems. It was unheard of basically for a chromebook to have 8 gb ram in 2015, as well as a full fledged i5 cpu. They built this machine imo in excess. Even now in 2017 there isn't much of any chromebook that has this high of a display with the powerful internals and great build quality. It's probably still the most powerful chromebook out there now, and is right up there with laptops.

the Android apps have been running really well. Obviously it's still relatively a new thing w/chrome os supporting android apps. The good thing is since it's a first party google manufactured chromebook, it was basically supported as soon as it was possible.

The only "knock " i'd say are maybe the speakers. It's good, not great though. If the new chromebook pixel gets better speakers and I guess maybe a tb3 port or 2, I'd be tempted to actually spend that kind of money for a new one. It's been that good so far to me.

I would love to see a 500$ pixel, I can't see the need for all that horse power on such a simple OS. I want be decent powered laptop for great build quality and display.
