when you buy a new imac it comes with 2gb of ram. The upgrade cost too 4gb is $700 but if i where to buy an additional 2gb from an outside provider it is around $100. So my first question is why do they charge so much for this upgrade? My second question is when you buy a new imac does it have two 1gb chips or one 2gb chip?

2 gb are usually 2x1gb when ordered through apple. you can choose other rams but are much more expensive. no reason to upgrade from them unless you are extremely computer illiterate. otherwise just order buy it with 1gb and then order 2gb stick rams somewhere else.

To answer your first question, to make money. To answer your second, I have only bought 1GB but it comes in 1 stick. Don't know about the 2GB ones.

yah i just checked there website again and it says that 2gb is two 1gb sticks. I am gonna go to the apple store and see if i can sweet talk them into making mine one 2gb stick so i can just buy one 2gb stick instead of two. i hear they are pretty nice at the store and they are willing to do just about anything to please past, current, potential customers. i've always bought from the site
