The NEW MacBook Pro vs. the NEW MacBook

I've having a really hard time deciding...
Reading reviews and comparisons between the pro and plain might be a little confusing as most of them are referring to older models. Here are the Pro cons that I'm most interested in hearing about:

* Apple now states 6 hours of battery time for both, but it seems the older Pro models were more battery hungry. Perhaps the LED screen/Santa Rosa yadda yadda is performing it's magic. Does anybody have any experience?

* Wifi range. I've heard it's about the half in the Pro (because of the material). I suppose it's still the same? Anybody have any experience?


I really like a portable to be very portable, so the 13" inch screen is a plus. But the glossy flavor of the MacBook scares me. Also, the integrated graphics is a bit frightening.

If I buy the Pro model it I guess I'll be able to use it as a pretty powerful desktop computer too, having some fun with Quake 4. Going to other route it will mainly be a surf/movie/writing comp.
 
I just bought the new Macbook, and the two biggest worries it seems are the glossy sreen and the integrated graphics. Unless you are playing new games the GMA 950 isnt that bad at all. It can actaully play some games. The glossy screen does not get too much glare. It is only noticable if you look for it. For me when I focus on my work the glossy screen does not bother me at all.
 
In my experience, the pro blows away the MacBook.

I tried to go to a MacBook from the MBP... the screen sucks (viewing angle wise), the edge is sharp... it feels slower.

Overall, it comes down to the person, but I love the MBP... and the MB just wouldn't do it for me.
 
Oh, and I'd say the SR MBP is comparable in battery life to the MacBook.
I'd say the MacBook pulls in an extra 15-20 minutes of battery life when browsing the web w/ low backlight when compared with the new MBP.

Can't say about the WiFi. I know my Core Duo MBP sucked in that area. Haven't tested the SR one in tough situations.
 
What about the fingerprints on the BlackBook?? I was playing around with a black MacBook at the Apple store near me and I couldn't get over all the oil and fingerprints and crap all over the palm-rests and touch pad. Now, obviously that machine is being touched by hundreds of hands and palms all day long, but still. Has this been a problem (or an annoyance) for those of you with the black MacBook at home or work?? Thanks!

There are some fingerprints on my Blackbook (that appear after about a week of use) but they come off easily :)
 
Well that's good to know. I was imagining that the oils and dirt would begin to form a layer of grime that would remain, but this appears to be my wicked imagination getting the better of my sometimes good judgment. Thanks for the input!
 
If money isn't the issue I'd definitly go with the pro because of real graphics chip, if money is an issue and you don't care about games go with the macbook.

Also the macbook is more portable in size but it's not very lightweight compared to other laptops with similair sized screens, so in weight it doesn't matter if you go pro or not.

(Not that I can understand the issue with weight, people are to weak to carry a 2.5 kg laptop? or a 4kg one for that matter?)
 
I think the competition between the two was tighter before, but now you get so much more for the price difference. LED screen, even better video card, etc etc I'd go the way of the pro if you do plan on gaming a little.

Any apps in particular you'll be using?
 
I drove to Orlando to look at both yesterday, I have had 3 macbooks so far...and in the market for a small book ..

I played with the pro and did notice the yellow tint 1/3 lower half of the screen, just a tint, however it would bother me... I like the case, but was pretty warm. and love the light up keyboard, the macbook for me is easy to hold, and having a changeable hard drive is awesome...and i always pick up so many wireless spots with my macbook..... so i will think more on it and then decide
