Hello all

Just would like to know a few things..

1) When is the next iMac update likely to happen and what is most likely to be upgraded? any chance for blu ray?

2) Will I be able to play COD 4 MW on full highest settings and native resolution with an i5 or i7? (will there be any frame drops in certain places in the game)

3) When will SSD reach terrabyte size and be included with iMacs?

Also, do Apple update the iMac usually twice a year?

Questions 1 & 3 are impossible to answer. Your best bet for the guessing at the next update is to look at the Buyer's guide here on MacRumors to see historical trends and you should also do a search as this topic is brought up by someone every few days.

Define "native resolution". 2500 X 1600? There are only 2? monitors you can buy that support that resolution, and one is part of the 27" iMac.

A good 512 gig one runs $1600. So inclusion of a $3000 1TB SSD drive in an $1800 Mac really doesnt make sense.

there will be something in the line that dwarfs the iMac i7 soon
now how soon is soon ...i dont know ..weeks...months...
and if not early 2010 then maybe late 2010 or maybe early 2011....
but the demand is there for a bigger, faster and with more graphic capabilities
for some the 27" is just to small, as they connect it to a second monitor often their plasma tv with 40"50"60", somes ask for a faster processor , others for a better graphic card ,so as apple knows that too ,apple will bring release a bigger one ,or faster one with better graphics card ..they always did , since the first iMac


and for ssd ..they reached the terabyte a long time ago i think in 2007 already , but you could buy a ssd with 2.5 terabyte if you got some couple thousands left over

and for the blue ray burner ...hm its up to you , here are a couple people who got dvd's scratched by their iMac 27" , which means about 8.5gb in case of a dual layer dvd lost , and you want a blue ray burner and lose 50gb in one go as these blue rays are much more sensible then dvd's...

I think there may be an update in mid 2010 with Lynnfield and Clarkdale, then an update in Q2 2011 with 4 and 6 core Sandy Bridge (depending on 6 core TDP and other factors).

I think you mean Q2 2011

I doubt we'll see 6-core in iMac yet.. Getting quads was a long wait

I have some doubts on a 6-core iMac too but that 6-core CPU is the successor to Lynnfield Core i7 so who knows. They might stick with 2 and 4 cores just so they can keep the same chipset on the entire line.

You already can. You can play it with native resolution and full settings with 4xaa with around 40-60fps.

I have some doubts on a 6-core iMac too but that 6-core CPU is the successor to Lynnfield Core i7 so who knows. They might stick with 2 and 4 cores just so they can keep the same chipset on the entire line.

I think the 6-core is the successor to Bloomfield but it could be the new i7 too. We'll have to wait for more info from Intel like TDPs, clockspeeds and prices before we can "truly speculate"

Apparently it's the successor for both.

I'm going off this which places 6-core Sandy Bridge B2 as the successor to Core i7 900 and 800. (Not that precise but it's the best we have right now.) The Core i5 700 successor is 4-core so Apple might use the 4-core H2.

Yeah, it could be the successor to Core i7 overall (not Extreme though).

I was just thinking as Bloomfield is in high-end desktop category and 6-core Sandy Bridge is in that category too(link, link2), and Lynnfield is in performance desktop category so quad core Sandy Bridge sounds "better" to my ears but 6 months ago we were looking forward on Arrandale and Clarksfield for iMac but now we're talking about desktop quads and 6-cores so anything can happen.
