Just released if anyone is interested.

http://itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewSoftware?id=297613771&mt=8

It's free and seems quite good. Has snow reports and piste maps for US & European ski / snowboard resorts, plus links to the resort homepage, and a link to locate the resort in the maps app. One big flaw for me though, is that you can't run the app unless you have a data connection - not much use then if I have data roaming disabled when I'm abroad in europe. Also the piste maps are too low resolution for the European resorts I've tried.

Good start though. And free!

Wow, this is awesome! I have been waiting for a good looking decent app like this. Thank you for the heads up.

No worries. What I'd love to see in an app like this is more information about the resort, i.e. number of runs, skiable piste, resort info (nightlife, restaurants, childcare, useful contact numbers etc.), webcams, photos, and some kind of community where we can write our own resort reviews etc.

Then to have the option to download resort info & piste maps for offline viewing would be great for those who don't have data network access while abroad. It would then be a great resource for deciding where to go as well as while you're actually there.

I looked into doing something like this myself before any of the snow report apps came out, but (a) I don't have the time to spend on developing it, (b) I'm not a developer, so it could take a very long time!, and (c) having researched it, it costs quite a lot to buy the necessary data on each resort.
