The Northface Surge backpack

hello people.

I really want to get the surge backpack because of it dedicated laptop compartment unlike other bags where laptop compartment is inside the main compartment which i dislike because i feel it doesnt protect my air totally even if i will be using with my incase neoprene sleeve.

However I've read some topics that says that the surge backpack could be quite to be big for the air to be inserted and so im afraid that my mac could be moving while im transporting myself since it wouldn't be snug at all.

In the end should i get it? or get a backpack let say the recon or hotshot with the laptop compartment inside the main one?

Which would ultimately protect my air better?

edit. don't give me other backpacks option because in peru the best brand we can get are the Northface ones.

You might want to get a sleeve for double protection. I don't think that's a bad idea.

If you are going to limit yourself to NF, then the Surge seems fine to me. I like the idea of a separate compartment. In my case I have a MBP that I carry in the main compartment of my NF Borealis. It shares the space with my iPad. I have digitized all my books, so besides headphones and other electronic paraphernalia in the outside pocket, that is all I carry. If you do things this way (get rid of the dead tree books), then it won't matter so much what you purchase.

I forgot to mention im a student and this is my last year so basically i generally take 3-5 books everyday in my hot shot bag.

My dad is skeptical of using his credit card for internet transferences, and he refuses to use paypal aswell so bringing stuff from the US is not a solution currently! =(


Basically my only concern was whether how protective would the Surge backpack be even though its to big for my air.
Anybody who uses their macbook air with the NF Surge?

While I am not sure how you will be using your macbook air while it's in the neoprene case and in your backpack, I do recommend the Surge. I think it will be fine for your air if you have a sleeve on it.

I use mine with the 15'' Macbook Pro and there is still room left over. I have had had the backpack for a couple of years now, and really like it. Good luck.

btw guys, when i take out my air from the hotshot bag, sometimes i feel like if the lid would be "quite" pasted by which i certainly have to use my both hands to open it. I think this happens because of the pressure of some books over my air and if i keep having this issue, i believe the screen would recieve some marks of the keyboard...would this issue be solved by the surge dedicated compartment?

If I were you, I'd ask my dad to reconsider purchasing off the internet. You can't be stuck in he past forever!

I think the laptop compartments of nearly all backpacks is too big for an MBA. They think all people are carrying a thick Lenovo in their backpack.

When I buy my 11" MBA, I'm going to carry it inside my Osprey Raptor backpack, along with a Be.ez LA Robe sleeve, since the foam it uses is incredible. It comes with a compartment meant to hold a 2 or 3 litre water bladder (like a Camelbak), but it's also perfect for the MBA because the compartment isn't too big!! Also, the back of the backpack is protected by a semi-hard shell, so it'll offer protection even though it's not padded.

I have the Osprey 14L, but if I had the 13" MBA, I'd need to get the 18L.

Great, im skeptical again now haha, i will take my air to the NF store and check the bag and putting my mba inside.

This have narrowed down between staying with my currently Hotshot bag in which the mba is perfectly fitted in the laptop compartment, but its in direct contact with my books even if carrying it with a sleeve!(digitilizing them is not an option right now haha)

OR

that big surge which might be too big for the air that might be a problem..but that dedicated compartment makes my air feels protected!

Not all textbooks are available as ebooks/digital...would be nice but none of mine this semester are

I dont really have a suggestion for the backpack but im looking...as for Paypal. They are a decent company and will protect BUYERS, but if you are a seller and use them...well beware. If they decide to put a "hold" on your account for using ebay, you dont receive any money for sales for 21 days, or until positive feedback or 3 days after delivery confirmation. By the way this hold lasts for a month and a half...

Just exchanged my Hotshot for a new Surge.

Very very good backpack i have to say. This paranoid feeling is almost gone, i feel my mba have just discovered a new home in this bag!


However my only complain is the first compartment, its not so efficiently to open and well i feel like i can get robbed if i put my iphone in there hahaha, maybe it's just me.
