Ok

Let me be clear. I love this phone but since January in Atl, I have dropped at least 100 calls and I am not making this up.

I called ATT and they claimed that the tower in my area is "overloaded" and they will get it fixed by adding new spectrum in April.

So I received a case number and long story short, they credited 2 months of unlimited service. I thought I would wait it out.

The last week while I am at home I will call friends and family on favorites, and now I get the above referenced message. They are intentionally trying to limit my drops by redirecting my call to a non-working number.

This will eventually bite ATT in the ass, however, i wonder how.

Any observations?

Paul

I'm in the Atlanta area and have noticed the same problem lately. I've been geting more and more dropped calls and worse 3g coverage the last couple of weeks.

Somewhat off-topic, but this app (when released) could solve your problem, short of AT&T getting their act together:

I came across an as-yet-unavailable app at the Consumer Electronics Show in Vegas last month, called Newber (as in New Number). Their website is www.MyNewber.com and you can see they have been waiting over 140 days for approval.

Basically, you get a DIFFERENT number which you share with your friends, family, colleagues, etc. It will be in the area code of your choice. It will automatically forward to your iPhone BUT you can use the iPhone's GPS capabilities to have calls sent to a nearby landline phone.

So, you could be driving to work, on a call, and when you get to your office, press a button on the app and the call will transfer to your landline office phone, and the person on the phone would never know it. If your battery is low, you can transfer to a pay phone or other phone. You also would stop using your AT&T minutes, which may explain the delay (although VoIP apps have made it).

In your case, you could have calls transferred to your landline when at home or other place where AT&T coverage is poor. Heck, get a Verizon phone and have AT&T pay for it! Didn't they put an antenna in a certain senator's backyard for free?

I have no relationship with Newber, other than I saw 'em at CES and signed their petition to get Apple to approve the app or explain why they're not approved.
