Well, as you know, I ordered my 2.4ghz, 17" high-res., 160gb@7200rpm, 2gb RAM MBP on "Jun 5, 2007 at 02:25 PM PDT" (according to my order status). I am STILL waiting for the computer to ship. I have called 5 times to figure out why I'm still waiting if the online store shows 2-4 days (and even 1-3 days when I first started calling). EVERYTIME but once they told me it won't ship until July 18th. Why do they insist on providing such terrible customer service?

So, I'm now curious, everyone that ordered the 17" MBP with the 7200rpm drive and either have theirs already or have theirs in transit, would you mind posting when you ordered? I'm curious as to when ya'll ordered. Did I slip through the cracks and get forgetten about?

Should I demand answers? Should I even bother calling them back? I keep hearing people say they are great to work with, but I've only seen the opposite of great. WHAT SHOULD I DO HERE?!

Well all things considered, it IS a new product launch. Likely they're just having trouble keeping up. Nothing you can do but keep calling I guess. Just stay polite and you'll have your best change. Firm but polite.

You ordered a computer with a back-ordered around-the-web hard drive. Of course it's going to take a while to ship.

If they told you July 28th, that's probably when it'll ship. If it ships before then, cool. If not... well, you can always cancel, look around the internet for the drive (took me a week to find a carrier with it in stock and it was still back ordered an extra two days), and install it yourself.

I realize that WHEN I ordered there was a back order on the drive. They have since restocked that drive and I'm still waiting. It seems like TERRIBLE customer service to me. People are ordering the exact same config. I did and are having theirs shipped out already. I personally think it's 100% bunk that they would fulfill an order that was just placed before they'd fulfill an order for THE EXACT SAME THING a week ago. If it's not shipping until July 18th, I'm going to cancel my order and re-order right then and have it shipped on Friday. Do you not see my point here?

well then why not cancel the order and re-order again. chances are you'd have better luck...

Because they've already shipped my iPod that came with the order. The iPod has to be on the same order as the computer in order to get the iPod rebate.

The one thing unneeded is another "The official........thread". You knew the shipdate was the 18th when you ordered it, right? I read that was the date people were getting who wanted the upgraded drive. If that is not satisfactory, cancel the order. You act like there is a conspiracy against you. Apple is out to sell computers, and would like to fullfill them as quickly as possible. When I ordered my MP, with the X1900, I knew it was going to extend the shipping date by 4-6 weeks. I did not have to place the order, but I did. I just marked the ship date on the calendar and forgot about it. As it turns out, they beat the ship date by over 2 weeks. Deal with it.

This thread seems pretty official.

Maybe it should be a sticky.

Call them and find out what parts are holding your order up and possibly switch to a new part. Otherwise I'd just wait until July 18th as they said that's when it would ship. You're arguing their computer date vs. their customer service date, saying their computer date must be right only because it's first. I'd trust the people on the phone over the computer any day. If you don't act rude to them on the phone they may even hook you up with something for your trouble.

No I didn't, how would I know that?? :)

...why I'm still waiting if the online store shows 2-4 days (and even 1-3 days when I first started calling). EVERYTIME but once they told me it won't ship until July 18th.
That's B.S. man! I would call them and say when you ordered it it showed 1-3 days, and you need this machine for work so what is the deal exactly? If they still insist it won't be until July, then maybe you should change you order to something that is currently available to ship now.

I was in the same situation. I called and the Apple folks were very nice but didn't really know what was going on. I'm sure it is a computer glitch of some sort.

Anyway, here's the solution:

Cancel the order, and return the ipod (they will even ship you return labels for free)

Order a new MBP and a new ipod.

They even gave me a $50 credit as they couldn't explain what was going on.

I'm not in any huge hurry as I've waited a long time anyway for the new computer, so the $50 is just great for me!

Just call them and ask them why the web site said 1-3 or 2-4 days or whatever and now it is July 18th. If you are reasonable with them, they are generally reasonable with you. Just remember the person you're talking to will probably never touch your computer and doesn't know you placed an order. They know less about the situation than you do until they bring up the screen. At that point they may be able to tell you what is holding everything up. There's no point in being a jerk to them (unless of course they are a jerk to you). Often times after I have called asking what the hold up is my Macs get shipped out within a day or so. Work with them and they'll work with you.

If July 18th is too long for you to wait, ask them to cancel your order. If they can't provide the service you desire in the time you desire take your money back. Granted you don't get a Mac this way but at least you have your funds back.

Well, I'd say the sacrasm hasn't been laid down thick enough, because I don't see much of it.

I haven't been a jerk when I call. I've asked them each time if there has been an update to my shipping date yet. They say July 18th, so I tell them the online store shows 1-3, or 2-4 days. All they say to me is, "July 18th is most likely when it will be shipped. Sorry for the inconvience." Then they ask if there is anything else they can help me with. So, am I really being unreasonable here? I order a product at a premium price and expect that kind of service in the end, including my product being shipped when the parts become available, not at the tail end of the original estimated shipping date.

klymr, I don't really understand where you are getting this restocked info regarding the 7200rpm. I am being told no by 1800apple, and the website says 4-6 weeks.

care to clarify?

They are shipping it to you when the parts become available. I still recommend you call them and ask them what part is holding the order up. They've always been able to tell me for my Macs.

I ordered the 17" MBP with the 7200rpm drive. This is a print screen I just did now. This is the exact same configuration that I ordered. Hope this clarifies any confusion.

That is the exact one I am getting. This is the order date:

Order Date: Jun 7, 2007 at 06:57 PM PDT

This is the expected shipping/delivery date:

Ships by: Jun 8 - Jun 12
Delivers by: Jun 12 - Jun 18

I just called an Apple representative and asked him what my order status was and if their was going to be any delays. He said it's being prepared for shipment today and should arrive no later then June 18th. I live in Florida, btw. Hopefully they ship it today otherwise they will be getting another phone call! :p

Thanks for that info! I ordered more than 2 days before you, but I'm waiting until July 18th apparently. And this is why I am wondering what's going on.

Something here obviously doesn't sound right. The only thing I can guess is that if you listen to the other people who've posted in this thread, while they ordered after you and have earlier estimated ship times, no one has actually had theirs ship yet. Maybe there's are backordered too and simply have not yet been notified.

If you really are this concerned about it (and I admit, I would DEFINATELY be concerned), call back and ask to speak to a manager immediately. Explain the situation and see what can be done.

I didnt order a 17", but I did have a bit of a mix up in shipping times as per the website and est shipping times as per my confirmation email....I simply called them and explained and got upgraded to expidited shipping for free.....Apple usually seems pretty reasonable when you explain what your expectation was and if u mention its for work etc...

GoodLuck

You've been waiting for only one week and already called them several times?? What do you expect? When I ordered my Powerbook, the webpage said it was on stock, and it still took them a month to deliver it.

1.) Don't capitalize whole sentences.
2.) Wait (and drink tea, if you're British).

That's nothing... :S

Ha, I'm in Australia, I ordered a new iMac 2.4GHz on the 08/08/07. Delivery estimation date from apple? 05/09/07. Almost a soild month. Estimated time when I ordered online? 7-10 days. so almost TRIPLE (and that's if it comes on time!). Not too happy, especailly this being my first Apple computer.
