The official Walmart proof that the iPhone is 100% GO

So, I work at Walmart - and tonight in the stockroom I happened across the upcoming ad. The iPhone 3G is the front page news of course, just as the ad pictured that went around a while back.

I figured I would let everyone know about this now that it's proof positive that we're going to see Walmart - the nation's largest retailer - carry the hottest phone of today. The Best Buy price drop is even out the window as Walmart matches other store's print ad prices.

I got a little more in depth in my blog, as well as posted a few more pictures in recent entries - but I'm not entirely here to promote myself. I wanted to see if there are still any non-believers, or those that have a strong voice of opinion for or against this. Thoughts? Keep it civil.

Wal Mart is evil.
I would be much happier to pay Apple or Best Buy $2 extra since they're more respectable companies.

In college, the position I'm in now has my income above most kids I talk to in school(s) around here. I'd rather stay, thanks. :)

I just got a $700 paycheck. With a part time job and full time school, I'd say that's fairly decent.

As for the Best Buy pricing now - the second I saw that, all I could think of was wow, and laugh. Competition isn't as stiff now as it is immediate.
 
Does that ad just sum up Walmart?

"The new year costs less at Walmart." WTF does that mean? Are they really going to make like saving $2 is a huge deal on a ~$200 product?

"The iPhone you've been waiting for." That made a lot of sense -- in July. Now, it's just "the iPhone you for some reason waited on the bane of all existence to carry and could've had in July if you had just gone to your nearest AT&T store."

What's next? "Blu-ray Disc: better at Walmart"???
 
Are Walmart giving a free gun and bullets with each iPhone bought?

it would help prevent you getting mugged when using the phone if you had a handy .22 or something, stop me feeling frightened.

There ya go, don't let anyone knock ya for working at Walmart - it's a job. It's more noble than some jobs, including mine in valet. Sometimes I feel like I'm running a scam, getting tips for essentially accomplishing nothing.
 
You guys are being too harsh!
Some people need the two dollar savings for a Big Mac! (Can they even afford that with the two dollars?)

So my wife works there too, so I would get 10% off, the might be tempting.

I wouldn't say it's a scam, you're still doing people a service and receiving payment for the service. Even if it's just tips, you're being rewarded for the work that you do. That's nothing to sneeze at. I'd take that over unemployment and plenty other jobs any day.

Seeing as she's a member of your family, you and her both could get that 10% off through the store, yes - but don't forget, through walmartbenefits.com, you both can get 15% off the monthly bill too. That definitely made it worth it for me.

As a matter of fact, the price of the iPhone 3G contract after that 15% off comes close to the price of the original iPhone's without it. Which even gives me an incentive to upgrade.

They also have 20% off Verizon. Though that doesn't concern me or most here, I figured I'd get that out there.
 
And the idiots that work at Wally World are going to be setting up contracts and explaining the iPhone to people? They seem to have a problem finding knowledgeable people to work at Best Buy, much less Wally World :(

I just used my powers of reasoning, why would anyone intelligent want to work for Wally World?

Wally World as a whole has terrible health benefits, pays their employees very little, violations fair labor standards, pressures employees to work off the clock, buys more than half their commodities from China, and I won't even go into the conditions for employees in the Chinese factories.

Can I get a job at Wal-Mart?

Why is this news. The iphone has been out for half a year already.

The benefits are not terrible.
There's my pay.
Define Standard. What is legally set is legally followed.
No one I've ever talked to ever worked/works off the clock. It's against company policy.
Just about everything either in part or in whole including the iPhone is made in China.
The conditions of Chinese factories are the fault of Sam Walton? Really, is he now Stalin?

Don't believe everything said on the news. If that was the case, how many times would we be expecting clear blue skies? Work there for yourself, or at least get some facts straight and try again. I expect a fair interview of 100 qualified employees unless you've done that already. I'd say 100 is a fair estimate for a survey, no?

I don't know about other places, but around here I can say that the employees at the connection center are plenty capable of selling these things, and selling them fast. People have this misconception about phone sales. If someone wants a phone, odds lean more toward they have at least an idea of what they want. If they don't want one, there's not much you can do to sell it to them. People either want one then, want a little info on them to decide at a later date, or don't want them. Some straggler kids just want to play with the shiny buttons and flippy screens.
 
All this information is based on surveys of employees or analyses conducted, seems like a poor benefit program to me.

taxpayer-funded health care than any other employer.3

Wal-Mart admits public assistance is a “better value”
· Despite over $12 billion in profits, President and CEO Lee Scott admits, “In some of our states,
the public program may actually be a better value - with relatively high income limits to qualify,
and low premiums”.4

Here I thought this was a Mac and iPhone forum. It's degraded into a typical WalMart bashing forum.
 
I am not implying you or ignorant or that was stupid. That was actually a very well rounded backup to what you said. You presented a fact.

Unfortunately sites like WakeupWalmart exist to knock down business that have a strong opposition from a group that goes against all their beliefs and what they stand for. Others that annoyingly do the same thing thinking they're doing good are Kentucky Fried Cruelty and Greenpeace. Over the top protection of a seemingly good cause, that they end up making a bigger deal out of than need be, only generating negativity.

For every successful organization out there, there is one just opposite of it trying to promote their own idea or business also looking for gain or at least a slice of the pie. More often than not, when sites like WakeupWalmart present "facts", they're entirely outdated, or the truth is twisted to where they are presenting what they believe to be "facts" as outright reality, and it's not.

Exactly. I presented proof that the beloved Apple iPhone is going to be sold to an even broader audience in more locations, and growing by the day, and instead everyone starts hating on the business that's giving Apple the support and sales. The iPhone at Walmart is now reaching an audience that Apple Stores don't. Two different demographics of people go to each one. Apple is now covering both. This thread is here for the non-believers and skeptics about the iPhone at Walmart, and it's actual price and capacity, and I gave the proof regardless of how loved or hated the place is. Let's stop the bashing and get back to the topic at hand.
