ny somewhere
just got an actual email from apple, includes this line:

"Please install the release version of OS X Yosemite."

so apple DOES want us to update from the final beta (i know there's been a lot of discussion about this).

just passing on the info...

Got the email too...

BTW, they seem to suggest that we will continue to get Beta updates. When 10.10.1 hits beta, it sounds like we may get a copy of it too.

Just wondering if its worth staying on Public Beta for these reasons alone.

Here is the complete text...

Thanks for participating in the OS X Yosemite Beta Program.

As you know, OS X Yosemite brings an elegant redesign, continuity features for using your Mac, iPhone, and iPad together, and major enhancements to the apps you use every day. And it’s now available for free from the Mac App Store.

Get OS X Yosemite

Please install the release version of OS X Yosemite. As a member of the OS X Beta Program, you will continue to be offered beta versions of OS X software updates on any Mac that you installed the beta on. However, if you prefer to stop receiving beta updates, please click here.
Thanks again for helping us make OS X even better.

I got the same email blast just a few seconds ago. I was hoping they were gonna push a beta tester update. This leads me to think if we do not upgrade we will not be brought along as some have thought in the future with further updates.

I was just looking for info on this as well. Not sure if i want to update to the actual Yosemite or stick with the Beta. i get the impression that they will continue to release beta versions periodically.

Is the most recent Beta (6?) the same as the public release?

Got the email, clicked on the link, got a pop-up telling me I was already running 10.10 and that I should find updates elsewhere although I could run the full installer if I wanted.

I'm sticking by what I said previously that PB6 and the main release are the same. Everything is working well for me, even the wifi, so I'm staying as I am. If I ran the full installer it could only get worse :)

I'm currently running the most recent public beta and got the email too... No updates when searching the app store. If I download Yosemite from the store and install it over my current public beta, will it erase everything on my computer?
I'm only confused because there are no updates available unless I manually download the official release.

What you're saying is in direct conflict with what Apple is telling beta testers. The beta and the release are not the same; if they were, they would have the same build number.

it seems, at the worst, that (assuming the final beta and the first official release ARE the same), that updates may REQUIRE the final 10.10 in order to be installed.

but...whatever. i chose to find yosemite in the apple store, downloaded and installed it. actually, for whatever reason, fixed a small issue i was having with notification center.

whatever works...

what is the final version number for final release

Re: the above version number,
I've tried 3 edits to capitalize the letter A and Yosemite keeps posting lower-case.
Maybe another bug?

2nd edit: after posting the above edit I tried the capital A again and it took, who knows???

I was running PB6 but decided to install the final release version after failing to find any updates available for beta testers. Took 45mins start to finish and went without issue (on a MBPr mid 2014). It didn't erase any of my data and everything still works as before.
