i 'm pretty new to mac pros and i only know for sure i can t install new gpus in mac pro 1.1

- gtx titanx
- gtx titan (2x)
- amd 7970ghz (2x)

what s the older mac pro that can support these ?

after os and pciex compatibility, psu support is another issue

All of them work in your 1,1 when you update it to Yosemite or El Capitan.
Power will be an issue when installing multiple cards.

If you are looking to get full speed out of them you need a 2009 or newer Mac Pro to run at full PCIe 2.0 speeds.
Still have to get creative to supply power to 2 cards.

I stand corrected, I knew it had at least one, wasn't sure it had two. Now I know :)

man, it s hard to believe i can install single card titan / titanx in a mac pro 1.1

if you re sure, it s a great news, but i read the opposite. they have high TDP (250 w)

All classic MacPros are officially limited to 2x6Pin = 225W, but there's some tolerance, so it won't shut immediately off if one of the +12V rails has to supply slightly more.
There are lots of threads here about modding the card or your PSU to get more power from it.

Keep in mind that you will only reach the TDP in extreme situations such as running FurMark. In a 1,1 it's quite likely to be CPU limited in many applications, so your GPU won't be pushed to its limits.

Yes, this is an important point.

OP, keep in mind whatever you are trying to do better be massively GPU dependent, or the MP 1,1 itself is going to be bottlenecking you to the point where a slower GPU would be just as fast for the task.

Depending on what you do, for octane rendering there is no render time difference between the 1,1 and a 5,1 even with 3 Titans (see my thread about gpu bench in 1,1) and open cl loss is 5%

i already have these gpu (pc version), so it s not a big problem :)

I'm seeing $3500+ in video cards and were talking about older 9 year old Mac Pros????

i already own em and i m going to buy a used old mac pro to fit em in.
if a mac pro 1.1 can support the gtx titanx i ll go with that :)
