Hi guys,

I have an iPad Pro 11" running OS13.
When I plug my cameras micro SD into the iPad (through USB C,) I can see the files on the memory card in Apple's finder app. When I select the files (.dng in this case) and click move, also selecting the destination where I want the photos copied to (in this case iCloud Drive) I get an error pop up saying:
"The Operation Can't Be Completed. Couldn't communicate with a helper application."

Does anyone know how to fix this? I need to be able to move my photos off the memory card into iCloud or another Cloud storage, however doesn't seem to like it?

TIA.

SOLVED: I changed the name of the HDD from "untitled" and the drive now works flawlessly.

Hi everyone!

Same happens to me! On the bottom of the folders in small letters it reads "Read-Only" i don't know if that has anything to do? Can our SD cards be the problem?I tried formatting my sd card from the camera but didn't help!
Such a bummer! I bought the iPad and a usb-c hub from anker just to edit my photos on the iPad but i can't do it!

UPDATE 1

THE PROBLEM IS THE SD CARD! Ok so i tried doing the same but with another sd card (an old 8 GB one) i have lying around and everything worked just fine! I am wondering if formatting my mine sd card (SanDisk Extreme PRO 64 GB) from my mac will make it work. I'll try and i will let you know.. Hope it works cuz i dont want to buy a new sd card!

UPDATE 2

Ok there is something i didn't realize! I said everything worked fine but when i copied the raw file onto the camera roll and when i went and looked into the camera roll the raw files where all black images. So i imported those black images into lightroom and they imported like that (black images (they had "TIFF" on top of them)) but after a copule of second they showed up fine in lightroom (the actual raw file and on top of them read "RAW")

Interesting find from you there. I too am using a Sandisk extreme pro 64gb, so it could well be an issue with these micro sd’s. Hopefully there is a way around this, as I don’t really want to have to buy another micros sd.
I wonder if the sandisk would work with an alternative app to apples files app?
I don’t currently have the IPP with me, so cannot check atm.

Does it work copying first to your iPad, locally, and then to iCloud?
Currently don’t have the IPP on me, however I know that it works when pulling the photos from the micro sd card down to the iPad local storage. I would have to check if I could then move it onto iCloud. But that’s just another step (which is annoying.)

Also, check out @fgaleano above post. It could be an issue with the card itself, as it sounds as though we are both having the same issue..

Any update on this??

It could also be because PadOS and iOS13 are still beta releases. I’m having some issues as well. Good thing I took Apples advice and didn’t install it on the iPad Pro I use for work.

SOLVED: All that needs to be done is name the HDD. Mine was named as "Untitled."
I changed the name of it and it now works flawlessly.

Your micros SD card will most probably have its default name as "Untitled"
Open the Micro SD card on your Mac/PC and right click on the micro sd card, and click rename. Just call the SD card anything.
Then plug back into your iPad and you shouldn't have any issues. From the looks of it, Apple Files app does not like an external device (ie hard drive or in this case micro sd card) having a default name, it wants you to name it something.
Simple and easy fix, well it was for me anyway!
