I am thinking about getting The Orange Box for PC, but since I have mac I can't just run the CD because its for windows. I think That Linux users can just use Wine, or PlayonLinux or something. But is there a way to run the CD on a macbook? I do have the option of dual booting windows but I don't prefer that.

I would assume that you have to download it from steam. The reason I say that is the Orange Box was only recently released for Mac and I don't even know if they started pumping out retail Mac/Windows discs for it. So if you stick the dvd in your machine I'm unsure if it will read. Check the retail box you bought and see. If so, you'll just need the cdkey. Download steam from www.steampowered.com, create a username/pass and then activate your key and you can download all the games included in tOB (TF2, HL2, Ep1, Ep2, Portal). Hope this makes sense!
Btw no matter what the only reason to use the dvd is to install, steam then no longer needs the dvd in drive to play as it is then permanently tied to your steam account.
I just read that you haven't bought the game yet. Unless you can get a deal on it at a retail store, you might as well just buy it online from the steam client - same price as MSRP no tax, instant satisfaction. The dvd you buy most likely won't work in Mac OSX for the reasons I stated above. The downloaded orange box from steam client will all work on OSX though. Let me know if you have any problems. I'm all for helping any Half-Life fans =)
Too bad, if you had bought it last week I think it was running for $20 on Steam as part of the summer sale!
I might also add, if you have a 360, Orange Box is actually quite good on it. TF2 isn't anywhere near as good as on the PC, mostly due to the amount of free updates the PC version gets, but Half Life and Portal are very well done and don't feel out of place being on a console. Plus you can find Orange Box on 360 for $7 at some EB games.

Basically the box contains
- serial number to register your purchase on steam
- some files "pre-downloaded" for you on the disk
You need your steam account to play. But it'll work no matter what computer / platform you play it on, as long as your account is signed in on one computer at a time.
Mac version you probably have to download from Steam anyway.

True, I paid retail when it came out and don't regret it a bit.
As I said, TF2 is better on PC/Mac but do-able on 360. And HL+episodes don't see very meaningful updates so you won't miss on on much there. Depending on the macbook the OP has it might run better on a 360 too.
I have the orange box for PS3 because I don't have a 360. But TF2 has had no updates on PS3. So i'd just get it for computer.
Well unless you wanted HL2 stuff and Portal, you could always just get TF2 and save $10.. But TOB is a great deal nonetheless
