This was probably asked before but I've tried searching the forums and can't find solutions so here's the breakdown:
- My mom has a second generation iPod Mini (6GB)
- My brother was listening to it yesterday
- He turned it off
- When he charged it, the charging icon appears, then suddenly hangs and displays the Apple logo, then after a few seconds it displays the "sad iPod icon" with the URL http://apple.com/support/ipod. (you may take a look at it here: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1373?viewlocale=en_US)
- I've tried several solutions and nothing works.
- I've tried setting it to disk mode, it worked for a while, then a few minutes later it displayed the sad ipod icon again...
- My mac won't recognize it.
- I've tried the diagnostic mode as stated here: http://www.methodshop.com/gadgets/ipodsupport/diagnosticmode/index.shtml/
- Everything works, except the HDScan which said "Fail!"
- We're assuming the hard drive is broken. (of course)
- The warranty has expired and we don't have the receipt for it because it was given to her as a gift.
- She had it since 2006.
- The iPod almost always hangs up whenever it's in my brother's hands and he always comes to me to restart it.
My questions:
1. Will this ever get fixed?
2. What do you think will the apple store say to us?
3. What do you think may have caused this? (My brother dances with it all the time. It's attached to a lace around his neck like a necklace with no hand support whatsoever most of the time. Do you think this may have something to do with it?)
4. How much will it cost to replace the Hard Drive?
