Okay the 15 inches MBPs 2.4 were out of stock so i ordered a 17". Is the screen as good as the 15", the resolution etc?. And i don't need the HD screen i think, because im not a photographer or anything like that.

Will I be happy with my purchase anyways? Im not going to cary it around much unless if i take it to friends etc.

The 15.4" has 1400x900 whereas the base model 17" has 1680x1040. You should have paid the little extra for the true HD and it's silly to say you need to be a photographer to make use of the extra space.

I base that opinion on my own experience before I went and bought a 24" monitor. I thought it would be too big but I quickly learned there is no such thing as too much screen real estate. THERE IS ALWAYS SOMETHING NEEDING ROOM! No worries though, just order a 30" ACD ;)

If you're gonna pony up the extra for 17" MBP, you really should have spent the extra $100 on the High-Resolution Screen.

That being said, it'll still be a screamer and if you've never used a HD screen before you won't 'miss' the extra screen real estate that it provides.

Actually i got to know today that im getting the 17 instead of the 15, because .they couldnt get a 15 one so they had ordered a 17 instead, which suits me fine. I really didnt have the option to change screen since im not buying directly from mac, and the 15s was sold out so they got me a 17. I think i should be fine, its not that bad is it?:D

I know exactly what you mean. I'm using 3x 19" monitors at the moment and I still run out of room. Even when I was playing around with the Mac Pro connected to the 2x 30" ACD's in the Apple Store in London I felt I could do with a just a "bit" more space!

It's not bad at all mate. The Hi-Res screen is more like a bonus - the cherry on the cake. You're still getting the cake and what a tasty cake that is!

The screen quality is still gonna be great, it's just that you could have had a few more pixels squeezed onto the screen. Still, at least you won't have to squint when reading small text ... :)

OKay it sounds good ^^ but i guess it'll be better then what i am using now, a three year old matte screen plugged onto my pc. 19" with 1200x1024 (or something) and now im getting a 1600x1024, and thats a 17":D ill guess ill be amazed anyway:D

I was going to buy a 15" glossy off the internet because I wanted a custom rig. I decided at the last minute to drive waaay across town to my "local" Apple store.

After seeing everything side to side, I shocked myself by buying a 17" matte MBP!

Not to beat a dead horse but this is a comparison between a 24" monitor and 17" HI-DEF MBP. It's a picture from Flickr I snagged; the owner of this said he's ordered a 30" ACD after seeing the difference.

IMHO it's silly to buy the 17'' without the high res. screen.

One of the only things that makes up for the lesser portability of the 17'' compared to the 15'' is the higher resolution available with the HD option.

So instead of buying a 17'' at low res. you could just as well go for a 15'' and possibly an external monitor :).

But that's just me

What everyone seems to be forgetting is that Makube's already ordered it and it appears that as he's not buying from Apple directly he can't add the Hi-Res screen as an option.

No matter what anyone says, it ain't gonna make a difference, unless he can cancel the order that is ...

There is one more thing Makube, you said:
they couldnt get a 15 one so they had ordered a 17 instead
If you really wanted the 15" model and they couldn't get it for you maybe you could have got them to give you a discount or something (throw in something for free) as surely you ended up paying more in order to get the 17" model?

Well, actually i didnt have to pay the extra since they had told me i would get my 15" and ordered a 17", so im quite happy=) I kind of earned on their mistake i think. Im not giong to need the portability either really, so i guess im good to go:D

Yeah i thought so too:D I was just curious if the 17" screen is worse in quality or something than the 15", but it obviously isn't i guess. God am I excited about tomorrow:D
