Sitting patiently, refreshing my Tracking Number page every 15 minutes or so. Then, BAM! "DELIVERY EXCEPTION".

The UPS driver went to the wrong unit in my building, that person wasn't home, I get screwed. When I called UPS to see if I could pick it up at their service center; nope, our service center is closed on Saturdays. And there's no direct contact to the driver.

So, screw you UPS.

Honestly, I'm surprised I'm the only one who this seems to have happened to. I thought it would be more common...

You're not alone.. There are a lot of people in the same boat.. Some of the Best Buys got shipment delays as well so instead of 9am or 10am launches they have to wait until 5pm... I feel for you though.. Sorry

I know you are hating UPS but I have to love them. After a few phone calls yesterday I actually got the cell phone number of the UPS Saturday delivery person and asked if they would call when they got to my closed and gated office so I could meet them to get my iPad. Sure enough he called and made the delivery that was not going to happen till Monday.

No, I am sorry about what happened to you but I am loving UPS!:)

UPS > FedEx . Sorry to hear about your plight but UPS has always been better at this then FedEx.

UPS has unfortunately always been stereotyped in film as box damaging , and they did a really poor job of marketing themselves compared to FedEx. They also suffer from a Union issue that FedEx doesn't have to deal with on the same level which effects shipping rates.

That said, the hundreds of UPS employees I've met are, in my opinion, 100% better at the service of delivering parcels then the FedEx personnel I've met.

Why Saturday?

A lot of these shipping issues could have been avoided if Apple had launched on Friday vs Saturday.

I had to call the international center. They are overloaded.

I got mine so i shouldn't talk, but I sort of feel for them, especially the drivers, as my driver looked like he needed to go to the hospital.

He dies it's my fault.

(But that's ok as long as I get the goods  )

No, seriously I was expecting to wait until Monday.

No sweat

It sounds to me like pure laziness on the driver. I'm guessing he didnt go anywhere near your apartment and just keyed in an exception to show he attempted delivery. I've been sitting here at the apartment office watching for a UPS truck and nothing yet. If they try and pull that on me I am going to be extremely pissed. If I had chosen store pickup I'd be at home right now on my ipad

If you make a complaint they can contact the driver and direct him to go back
this happens all the time ......

Boy, that is CRAP!

Sorry to hear about your bad experience with that particular IDIOT in brown.

Moral of the story, next time reserve for in-store pickup. There was no one in line when I got to the Apple store in my area and that was at 11:30am!!!

At least they tried, I called on Saturday afternoon to find out UPS won't deliver to me on Saturday. AFTER LAUNCH DAY STILL WAITING FOR MY PRE-ORDER! Apple sucks for using non-Saturday delivering POS UPS. Apple owes all of us stuck with Monday deliveries, because they did not tell us up front! Worth the drive and lines at the Apple Store for sure...

Apple sent me an email saying that there'd be no Saturday delivery. Well I resigned to get it Monday. Well we went out Saturday afternoon for a little. Got back to the house and I went for a quick run, and less than a quarter mile into my run, a big brown truck drove past me, then stopped at the house. To my surprise my iPad was delivered, so I am not mad at ups anymore.

By law you can not be refused service through USPS by any company within the US. If a company will only ship UPS I don't make a purchase.

I have had a serious distrust of UPS for years now.

In the future you can talk with a rep and have them ship USPS, it may cost a little more, but they will (Or at least should)

After my experience today at the Apple store (very good), and the horror stories with UPS I will definitely do in-store next time we have a launch. Apple has store launches down, since they control the whole thing! (I have my 3G coming to work, since I'm relatively sure it won't be a weekend.)

The one part of this that is weird is the Saturday launch (and then some stores were closed today, Easter, because of the holiday). I know it was pushed back a week or so for unknown reasons, but have any other products been launched on a weekend?

On UPS vs FedEx, I get *tons* of stuff from Amazon (Prime) from UPS, without problems, but when they deliver to the house, I wish they would take the literal two extra seconds to ring the doorbell. Not stick around. Ring the freaking bell so I know they even showed up! :)

I have to admit I wasn't paying attention when I ordered the ipad on the 25th and didn't know that the 3rd was a saturday, let alone a holiday weekend.

On the other hand, all my Apple orders of stuff from China have come via Fedex and Apple didn't warn of a service downgrade to UPS.

Had I been aware of either of those two facts I wouldn't have pre-ordered.

The Hermiston, Oregon UPS hub has been a weak link in UPS service since I've been in Oregon. In fact, it's company policy to only use Fedex for air parcels for this reason.

Hopefully on Monday UPS in Hermiston can find someone sober enough to truck it down to John Day. Once packages get to the John Day office they seem to get here. If not, I guess Apple can have it back.

Make sure you contact apple customer service so they know. If you don't, they won't know UPS had issues. I get more banged up packages from UPS than fedex so I prefer fedex. Maybe if your lucky, apple will compensate you somehow.

Let me see:
FedEx calls when no one is answering the door, lets me call them in advance to hold or try delivery on another day; also brings me boxes when I need a pick and doesn't charge for pick ups.
UPS just drives off no one comes to the door or worse—leaves the box in the street for anyone to take; can't do Saturday pick ups and tries to charge me $13 for a pick up.

Therefore I don't mind paying the extra $3 it takes to ship anything via FedEx for that peace of mind. However I am very much relieved they don't use DHL anymore; they used to deliver to the wrong address altogether or lose things and then decline the claims.

Sucks that happened but no choice for shipping method would have been perfect. That'd just be impossible. Some areas UPS is the clear winner, and in other areas FedEx is far superior. It just depends. I consider myself lucky mine showed up yesterday, but based on past UPS experiences, and the unreliable tracking info on ups.com, next time I am going to use the pick up in store option.

Exact same situation here. I just hope I get the stupid thing today... I have battle fatigue from trying to keep up!

UPS showed up at 9:30. Driver said his boss told him not to accept the "Shipment Release Authorization" but to get a live signature. Not sure what that is all about, maybe they are nervous due to delivering two days late.

Syncing with Itunes now....
