Apple should have made a service around books and audiobooks. Competing against Amazon and the kindle seems like a better market to target.

First of, magazine readers are such a niche market. There are far more Book readers in the world than Magazine readers. Also, Apple has an extensive iBook and Audiobook library.

I think apple really missed the mark here. I tried the new+ app and I'm very underwhelmed...

Perhaps that’s in the future.

I suspect the magazine option was a no brained given it’s a relatively untapped market. Buying Texture was an easy way in and basically own the space.

I guess the only reason why Apple doesn't do this is either because there wouldn't be much of a market for Apple users and/or their are plenty of alternatives out there like Audible...

Perhaps the reason reason, is the convenience of having everything in one place,, but anytime you have a huge collection of something like in iTunes, its never eliminating the problem of issues with syncing to the cloud
