The smuggler returns! BUT PLEASE HELP

Hi there, I'm the boy who asked about smuggling a macbook pro to Denmark. All went fine and I am now the proud owner of the medium-madbook pro. Thanks for all the advice.

BUT.

There's a major issue, as I was starting up, it took so long for the setup assistant to hook-up to my airport base at home, that I decided to restart and reinstall os x and thus also getting rid of unnessecary software.

THIS IS WHERE MY PROBLEM IS.

When I'm asked to change to os x installation disc 2, the program says it terminated unexpectedly and keeps on looping, trying to restart installation and then I have to start all over again.

Does anyone know what's causing this, and is there a way to work around it??

Could you just have gotten a bad disc? Seems like someone else had a problem re-installing because garageband was corrupt. I think he re-installed with out garageband and it worked. Apple is sending him a new disc, if I remember correctly. Good luck and I hope you get it straightened out quickly.
 
I'm on my fourth try now. I've tried disabling all data but the basic system files or whatever they're called.

Now I at least don't get a warning even before I start installation that I'll need installation disc 2, so I'll see what happens when it's through copying the files.. After it was done this time, it restarted, asked for cd 2, and then dvd-drive sort of chugged af bit and then those crashes again. I've learned, that if I'm quick and hit eject befor it crashes it says something like 'preparing disk' and then it says 'installing iweb.app' and then of course it aborts because the dvd isn't in the drive.

It seems to not be able to proceed when the dvd is in the drive, which is a bit of a paradox isn't it?

Does anybody think I would get any wiser doing a complete hardware test? I mean it takes forever.. And I know that the drive is okay, because it reads the entire disc 1.. Apart from this, the computer seems fine.
 
ok what it says is, preparing target volume (as i eject the second installation disc, and then it aborts)

I can see in the log, that it, among many errors says: No file found at path: /volumes/mac os x install disc 2/packages/iweb.mpkg

the other faulty programmes are garageband (good prediction from whomever it was) iphoto, idvd and imovie HD.

Should I use my friends installation disc?
 
I had a computer blowing up on System install and it was a bad RAM module.

Do you have 2 in there? Swap them in their slots and see what happens. When I did that the problem went away. I finally had to figure out which one was bad (7 install attempts later....).

The disk could be bad too.....

Exactly what I was thinking. When programs crash like this, my first thought is bad memory. It's either that or the disc is bad. I'd try TraceyS/FL's advice and see if swapping out the modules helps.

I wouldn't bother with the Apple Hardware Test because it rarely finds real problems that exist. For testing memory, see the MacRumors guide on testing memory, but unfortunately that does require a working OS X install first.
