This is not about whether or not SC2 will run or any of that nonsense, but about the game itself. I'd say StarCraft 1 is my favorite game ever, including on any console or anything else. I loved the campaign, played it over many times. And I loved the 'briefings' that happened before each mission, those were awesome.

I don't know how many of you guys have played a bit through the campaign yet, but I stayed up almost all last night playing and so far the story and interface isn't doing too much for me now. Maybe it'll change, but so far, I don't really like the campaign.

Is anyone else feeling the same way I am?

How far are you into the campaign? I just finished the one where I had to destroy everything that is contaminated with the virus. I think the interface works well and the game flows pretty nicely. I like these mission style campaigns.

SC1 was one of my most favorite game and I loved the campaign. Everything was cool about the game.
StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty is just released, I bet its gonna be a awesome game too. Reviews and videos are promising something special, Its gonna be the greatest game of 2010 besides Mafia 2 thats for sure.

I'm about half way into the campaign on Hard. No no... I didn't rush it. I'm pretty good at RTS games though I don't play them often. I have to say some of the "acting" if any was kind of bad; not going to say who, but you'll notice and you'll go  when you see it. But I love the story line so far and I can feel that they are building up a big twist with sub plots as well. Without trying to give too much away, the campaigns have many different types of challenges, which is always fun, and the setting is very cool since there's night and day, rain or shine.

I did read on Kotaku that playing SC2 on the Mac overheats the video card. The temp of my CPU was hitting anywhere from 73-77 while I was playing and I was playing on "Medium" graphics settings. I'd hate to know what would happen if I put it on high. I really don't feel like installing Windows on this just to play StarCraft. I can live without the crazy details/graphics.

70's is fine. Matter of fact you've got nothing to worry about until it hits like high 90s or triple digits.

I've heard the writing is pretty bad. True?

I've since finished it, like a day after my OP, and I'd say it's not bad overall, but some of the stuff is kinda hacky. Now I just wanna start the countdown and get ready to dig into the expansion... God damn cliffhangers...

Great job spoiling it for me.

I think it is well done. It is not academy award winning acting, but it does not need to be.

Here is my problem -

SPOILERS AHEAD

I am having a heck of a time with the one with the Super Nova sun and tghe Protoss. I have played it like 20 times on Hard and never can win. I bareky get it on easy, but the strategy is not working for Hard. Any advice? I never seem to get enough resource to have enough hardware to defeat the Protoss in this one.

i found the campaign story kind of boring, it's not as good as warcrafts. the multiplayer game play is fun though.

I did not read much of the posts because I don't want any spoilers. But I do have to say I do like the campaign. I don't think it is better or worse than SC1, but different. I am overall pleased with the game.

The campaign reminds me a lot of SC/BW - cool in moments, but overall uninspiring. Especially when compared to scifi plots like Mass Effect 1/2 (that has other problems but writing isn't one of them, relatively speaking).

Having said that though, the SP story was much flatter at the start than later on. It didn't end up quite as humdrum as I initially expected.

I just finished it today. I think they were trying to catch everyone up from the last decade. Not a bad thing just a lot of ground that they covered for people who have never played the original, or it's just been a while.

Overall it was a good start but I'm looking forward to the expansion. As for cliffhangers, don't worry. There is enough closure to wait for a next year or so till blizzard brings the Zerg campaign.

As for the Protoss mission mentioned above. Take science vessels if you can for the repair. It might help you last longer in the rip fields.

Just a word of advice, I killed that mission with a simple strategy on HARD. Build yourself a group of 12-15 banshees, move them close to bottom right corner as you can get. on the other side of protoss base create a distraction with whatever you can ( I even used buildings). Force your way up with banshees while protoss are slaughtering the distraction, you can kill the building before they get you. I know it's brute and not to smart, but hey, you have a super nova sun behind you and nobody said it has to be pretty ;))))

You have a point.
I'll try it.

Thanks.

I personally liked the campaign, I think I am on the last bit now, didnt want to finish it too quickly hehe

I like how it gives a nice interface, kinda like in Battlestar Gallactica, u interact and it gives u choices, upgrades, where to spend ur money etc is nice rather than just mind numbing missions.

The story is very well thought out and I can follow it nice and easily which is good.

Difficulty on Normal is way too easy, havnt tried hard yet so once I finish it on normal, will try again on hard to get all the Achievs :)

I did the campaign mission on a HARD MODE, everything was easy except on the last mission. That was so damn HARD and I don’t think its beatable. But after a few attempts, a long break and a few attempts more i finished it and even got the "hard" achievement as well.

The writing is pretty horrid, I roll my eyes constantly. They managed to pack in just about every cliché you've ever heard from every action/western/sci-fi movie. Like "I'm getting too old for this", "Lock and load", "I heard you were dead", "I can see it tearing you up inside", "It's quiet...TOO quiet", "It's a girl, right? / I don't want to talk about it", "I have a bad feeling about this..." and on and on. Probably some of them are meant to be there for humor but it's really out of control bad. Basically I think World of Warcraft writing and lore is much better, although it's more serious.

The other thing that is slightly disappointing is the graphics. The game itself looks pretty good, if you have the considerable horsepower required to show all the detail. But I didn't find the cutscene graphics to be good at all. These are rendered in real time with the 3D engine and would have looked great in 1998 or so. For a 2010 game in modern hardware, it's a letdown. The character models are lazily done (unrealistic eyes and mouths, wooden movements, plasticky textures, aliasing). This is really a shame, because Blizzard has put out some pre-rendered material that looks downright cinematic and has jaw-dropping detail (for example, the Warcraft III companion DVD and WoW promo movies). The game is 12 GB in size, it would have been better to pre-render all the material and make it look stunning.

One more thing about the game is that you cannot zoom out much at all no matter how big your monitor is, so the game does feel cramped to me and it feels like I'm doing far too much zooming around.
