I hope there's something by end of January. I've been waiting for new iMac, my old 2009 iMac (top of the line then, i7, 16 gigs RAM, etc.) is barely useable. Very disappointed no upgrade yesterday - for the first time in 30 years (!) of Mac use I'm debating going over to Windows due to lack of desktop. Yes the current retina iMac is pretty good but I'm unwilling to buy something without USB-C/3.1 support, not to mention over-priced
I am confused. I thought the new iMacs available this month were it. They have the intel
i7 and 5k display available now , plus the new AMD chip sets. None of which was discussed at the "Hello Again " event.
I have been using an iMac I bought in 2008. It semi died 3 months ago. I have been waiting for the new iMacs told were coming in October. Found them on Apple site. However, read everywhere that the Apple " Hello Again" on 10/27/16 would present all the info on the NEW iMac and a roadmap for any coming tweaks or options. NOTHING ! iMac not mentioned at all. Hence, is the ones available online now at the Apple store the way to go and the only options, and nothing else going to be added within the next 2 months?
Am I missing anything?? And info , advice, guidance would be deeply appreciated. TY , Philip

No it is not. I have an iMac I bought in 2006. I think it got a virus which I thought iMacs were pretty immune from. I did not download anything. just online debating someone, someone posted I better get offline immediately as person I was debating was known for sending viruses or something. I didn't. sure enough next day iMac all messed up. Been limpimg along for 3 months now b/c heard new iMac coming mid Oct. Heard Best Buy had them in begin of Oct. Then went to Apple store and saw them there. Decided to wait for all the big announcements on 10/27/16. NOTHING about iMac. Read here that big stuff coming end of January for iMac. WHAT IS GOING ON. Like to get the latest as hang on to computer usually for 8 to 10 years. Any help, advise, suggestion, thoughts would be deeply appreciated ; Philip

Format and reinstall, but back up anything useful and that you want to keep first. My predicament is similar virus's excluded. But I would rather wait and eek out a bit more performance.
Waiting a couple of months could gain you a year or two's usability at the other end of the life cycle.

, I mean, January is just too soon for new iMac’s. More likely March 30th 2017. But look on the bright side: leaves you more time to save more money because no thinner prices coming.

Great prediction....hoping for a specs bump to iMac in November and then a rebrand next year. However, I think you are exactly right. I think they want to build consumer/prosumer products to support their cash cow (iphone). Unfortunate, but likely.
I was going to buy what I was expecting to be a new bump on the iMac this fall, but alas. Now considering the direction they're going in, I wonder if it WOULD be better to go ahead and get the current iMac (refurb or used, because I'll be damned if I pay full price for a year-old computer) instead of waiting for what will likely be a more-expensive, gimped iMac with TouchBar and no ports.. Or, you know, I could just learn Windows 10 and get a more powerful and modern computer at half the price.
Thanks. The reason for predicting that they'll drop the "i" from the iMac name is because I believe they are keeping product naming conventions in line with their OS naming conventions. "i" hereby denotes mobile hardware that runs iOS. "Mac" denotes computing hardware that runs MacOS. "TV" runs tvOS; "Watch" runs watchOS.
I think Apple still holds Steve Jobs's "consumer/professional" organizational framework in high regard. For that reason, I believe Apple is moving toward a future in which they produce exactly 2 desktops, 2 laptops, 2 iPhones, 2 iPads, etc.
Consumer: Mac, MacBook, iPhone, iPad.
Pro: Mac Pro, MacBook Pro, iPhone Pro (this is what I anticipate the 10th Anniversary iPhone to be named), iPad Pro.
The problem is the "Pro" branding products do not have pro level specs (besides a high level Mac Pro)
There's no new CPU for apple to put in the iMac at this point. They were updated to skylake last fall and we are still waiting on kaby lake to be released. Intel has said they'll start shipping the first few weeks of January, maybe apple will update them in march. If its just a spec bump they could do it sooner.
This. 2016 was probably intended to be another year of minor spec bumps. Ever since 2012, Apple has announced a spec bump for the iMac like clockwork during the month of October every year. I double checked their press releases and just confirmed it.
2017 is likely going to see some bigger changes to the iMac. Apple probably won't sit idly to those asking to have an external keyboard with touchbar support since media professionals aren't likely to use the built-in keyboard of the Macbook Pro. If the iMac is paired with a touchbar capable keyboard, it opens the path for a bigger redesign and possibly incorporation of a short range charging system for accessories via wireless lightning or w/e marking term they will inevitably come up with.

I can't see many reasons why we can't expect to see a new iMac launched in March, considering the new chips will be available, and I would assume they have developed the external keyboard the same time as the macbookpro's [would be a bit silly not to].
Polaris as the GPU, some port changes at the back to TB3, nice new keyboard and Kaby lake, makes a great computer and not really that difficult to implement. All that needs changing to the chassis is a reduced bezel and chin.

Its really Apple's time table, but you're right, March is no worse then June, so why not get them out sooner then later.
I am really hoping it will be by the end of January, 2017. Some on this thread seem to think it will happen by mid January. I hope they are right.
