I bought 3 AirPods Pro 2 and all three of them bought at the Apple Store and were plagued with issues:
  1. The first one I bought 2 weeks ago had severe battery drain on the earbuds and case. The earbuds only lasted for 3 hours and the case drained from 100% to 15% overnight. I turned off the Find My AirPods feature. It had audio drifting and static audio.
  2. The second one I bought last week had static audio when playing songs from Apple Music in my iPhone 12 and it disconnected from my iPhone 12 several times. It had audio drifting.
  3. The third one I bought yesterday and I returned it this morning. It took about 3 hours to update the firmware. It had audio drifting, audio disconnecting, static audio when playing music, and several occurrences on spatial audio and noise cancelation not working. I even reseted the AirPods Pro and still same issues. It wasn't comfortable in my ears, the first two AirPods Pro that I tried out were more comfortable.
I couldn't enjoy these AirPods Pro 2 due to the issues it has. I may get them again when Apple releases a firmware update to fix the issues. The only good AirPods that don't have any issues are the AirPods Gen 2. I'm not sure if the AirPods Gen 3 have any audio issues, but I read that many people say that the fit is not good.

I still looking for earbuds for working out at the gym and for casual use. I'm looking at the Beats Fit Pro for gym usage and the Soundcore Liberty 4 for casual use.

I have two pairs of AirPods Pro 2 and both perform equally the same without a single issue. I use them daily for workout 🏋️‍♂️, running and biking. I run 8 miles 3 times a week, workout for more than 2 hours 3 times a week and bike more than 30 miles twice a week and I have zero issues with my AirPods Pro 2. I think your issue is phone related and not AirPod related as the common denominator in your case is the iPhone 12. I have an iPhone 14 Pro Max.
