It's been a few weeks in the making and a good bit of time and money but I have almost completed my G3 Lombard! Let me tell the story...

It began in December, post christmas. Needing an older laptop with USB, my Wallstreet was kind of lagging in that area. So I set out on a mission to find myself a G3 Lombard or Pismo for cheap.

I discovered a couple Lombards on eBay. One I lost but one...one ended at an awkward time and very few people bidded due to it saying "For parts" But this Lombard was not for parts! No! This thing worked completely! It booted OSX Panther just fine and it even has 192mb of RAM! I placed a bid and was outbidded only twice. The moment of reckoning came and I won! I had won this nice 333mhz G3 Lombard 14" for $93 shipped! Oh happy day! This thing did not have a battery or a DVD-ROM so my quest began.

I searched far and wide and lucky met Eidorian here on MR! He happened to have a Pismo that just died! I immediately snatched up the battery for this puppy and because Eidorian rocks, I had it within two days! Yay! Alright now what? I needed an optical drive. Once more Eidorian came into the picture and supplied me with a 6x DVD-ROM from his deceased Pismo. Joy! Now the final bit...RAM oh and a Wifi adapter! Another MR member contacted me about a wifi adapter, he was Canadian, but I trusted him anyways ;) A few days ago, the adapter showed and there was much glee to be had. But oh dear! I have no keychain password for this install of panther and the guy who sold it to me has no idea what a keychain password is! Crap! Oh wait! I know a mac genius and he also happened to purchase my Sawtooth!

I went to his apartment last night to drop off the Sawtooth and also bring my lombard to help get rid of these issues! Well first off! I had a bad RAM stick! Oh dear! But wait! He has a 256 stick I can use! It works! Oh man what a great day! We then continue to install OS9.2 and reformat the drive to prepare it for the coming OSX. I take the Lombard home and install Jaguar before going to bed.

Today I go to class as usual and when I return, I install Panther. It installs just fine! Yay! I'm currently running OS 10.3.2 with the 10.3.9 upgrade getting installed sometime tonight. I'm so happy with this little laptop and how far it has come!

There are a few problems. I think I need me a new Lomard G3 processor card and I do need a new PRAM battery. but those will hopefully be remedied soon and really are just a minor problem for now. I'm very satisfied with this little laptop and I can't believe how far it has come. It's definitely made me happy that I spent the time to upgrade it!

Your enthusiasm makes me happy. A nice change from all the complainers...
Good luck getting your computer working. I had a Pismo once and I loved it. Great machine. I just bought my mom a used one and she loves it too.

Yeah I still have plans for it too which is even more fun, heh.

At any rate. I plan on doing this "Upgrade to awesomeness" thing with this G4 Sawtooth I'm getting. I already started too by grabbing another 256MB of pc100 for it :D

Why complain about old machines and whatever else when you can have so much fun with them?
