Who else here is into the TWiT network? Lately I've been looking for a great Apple related podcast and I stumbled across the TWiT netcasts. I've subscribed to a whole bunch of these including Macbreak Weekly etc! Before that, I was really using Mac Rumors as my way to get commentary on Apple and tech related news, but honestly, TWiT is amazing! Are the TWiT netcasts the best ones out there on Mac news and tech news in general?

I love TWiT. I started watching Leo during the Tech TV days and I was very sad when he left. I was very happy when I later found his Tech Guy radio show, and through that, the TWiT network. I mostly keep up with Macbreak Weekly, Security Now, Windows Weekly, and TWiT. Some people gripe about the way the hosts tend to get off-subject, but that doesn't really bother me.
As for other Mac podcasts, Alex Lindsay and Pixelcorps used to carry Macbreak (the original, not Macbreak Weekly), but there hasn't been a new episode in a while. Revision 3 has a couple of good tech shows, such as Tekzilla and Hak5. Engadget has a podcast as well, if you like that site.

I've been watching Leo since the Call For Help and Screen Savers days on Tech TV. I miss the old Tech TV..

Really hit or miss.
They do let politics into it too much. About a year ago, This Week in Photography (TWiP) did a show/commercial for The Obama Time capsule photo book. After that I pretty much gave up on the podcast.

Yeah, I agree with much of the sentiment in this thread. I seriously think Leo and the team have created something completely unique and brilliant. I almost feel bad getting all of these amazing net casts for free! I should donate haha. Was quite funny on their live coverage of the recent Apple press conference when Leo was getting all negative about Steve. He had no trouble proclaiming that he'd recently swapped from an iPhone 4 to a Droid X haha.
I only watch a handful of podcasts now from him. I enjoy macbreak weekly and this week in photography. On occasion I will catch some of the others but I don't subscribe to them. If it is on twit.live.tv and I need some background noise I will watch, but I like the other two a lot.

Unlike what is said above there is little to no politics on all the shows.
Leo runs a tight ship and they are there to talk tech and nothing else.
In fact the only show you'll hear any politics pop up it on is "This Week in Tech" and only if John C. Dvorak is one of the guest because he's very upfront about being a Libertarian.
TWiT is the best place to get your tech news and analysis.
Because Leo has been in the computing/tech business for so long he knows the history involved on any given subject so there is always context for his comments and those of his guests.
His guests run the gamut, for old TECH TV co-hosts and producers to ex-Apple and ex-Google employees.
My favorites shows are:

Security Now - a MUST listen for everyone who owns a computer
This Week in Tech - the weekly roundtable covering tech news
This Week in Google - probably my favorite show
BTW - last week they launched "Ipad Today" with Leo and Sarah Lane (ex-Tech TV).

I too used to watch Leo on TechTV (still miss that channel, no thanks to you Comcast and your crappy G4) and I've been listening to the TWiT network for over 2 years now. I listen mostly to TWiT, MacBreak Weekly, TWiCH and TNT although at times I'll catch one of the other shows if I have a chance and fancy the what the shows about. I generally don't watch the show but instead listen to it in the car during my commute (lifesaver). I'd say my favorite guest is Andy Inhatko, then Merlin Mann.
The only thing that really annoys me about most of the hosts and guests is they all think at&t's service is awful everywhere even though they almost all live in either San Fran or NYC which are both known to be the worst for service. That drives me nuts since I live in an area that has great coverage and data speeds (I drive from one end of the city to the other [30 min at 55mph] and stream Pandora without ever dropping the signal).
The only thing that really annoys me about most of the hosts and guests is they all think at&t's service is awful everywhere even though they almost all live in either San Fran or NYC which are both known to be the worst for service. I am thinking of abandoning TWiT. MacBreak Weekly is a joke now. They essentially never talk about Macs except to downplay or dismiss the latest Mac updates and say how they aren't going to buy them and that they don't expect many people to buy them. They seem astonished about the continuing rise in sales of Macs.
All this because of the iPad. Leo is nuts for the iPad. Alex is completely out of touch with the average Mac user. He's still riding the Star Wars thing and constantly brings it up. He's irrelevant now.

I'm not sure what show you are listening to because that's not the same show I hear week in and week out.
They do spend a lot of time talking about the Iphone, Ipad and IOS.
They do believe that Apple has shifted their focus from computers to the Iphone & IPad.
Do you really disagree with that?

Apple about and OSX update?
Leo bought an new i7 MBP when it came out, he's got an IPad, and he just returned his IP4 after a month of testing because of dropped calls. All of that has been covered ad naseum not only because of his personal experience but also because all of those have been in the news.
Considering that why would you expect them to waste time discussing non-existant activity on the Mac desktop side?
Listen to the intro to this week's MacBreak Weekly: "The show that covers all your Mac needs in one easy to consume bundle..."
That's no longer the content of the show anymore. It's now a news show about Apple. 90% of the discussion is about iOS gadgets, not Macs.
Look at the Apple quarterly earnings report. People are buying Macs in record numbers and they will be using them for years to come. There are plenty of Mac things to talk about.
He needs to change the title of the podcast. It's really more AppleNewsBreak Weekly.
TWiT, the show, is where this stuff should get discussed. But it's the interminable Audible, Carbonite, GoToMeeting, etc. ads that kill it for me. 8-10 minutes for Audible? Really? It makes me want to boycott his advertisers. Listen to Mac Power Users ads. They make them informative and interesting avoiding Leo's seemingly endless repetition and condescension. And no podcast should be longer than 90 minutes. And the video ads nothing to the experience. I could go on and on. It's sad. I like Leo. He needs to retool though.

Yeah, it's done by a guy called Ken Ray. Mostly just Apple news and nothing else every day. I like it.

I love the How Stuff Works podcasts. I get Techstuff, Stuff You Should Know, and Stuff You Missed in History Class. I also like the Tech Guy and Security Now! I also like the new shows with Tom Merrit and Patrick Norton. I really like him.
As for Macbreak Weekly: The show has never been about hard core Mac stuff. They have never really gone into hands on type stuff. It has always been news and light discussions of Apple stuff. When they first started the show, it was mostly about Macs. They talk about Apple news, which in the past was heavily Mac based. However, with Apple's recent focus on iDevices, there really hasn't been much to talk about on the Mac side. They either have to talk about that kind of stuff, or move more into the hands on kind of stuff, which Leo has said he doesn't want to do.
Another Mac oriented podcast is Don McAllister's Screencasts Online.

However, as of late, I'm starting to burn out on them and Leo. Lately he seems to cut off his guests a lot, plus push the flavor of the month/podcast. Very commercialized, for a lack of a better term. Miss the old days with him.
And yes, there's too much politics entering his discussions on MacBreak Weekly and This Week in Tech. Sometimes I think he forgets he hosts a tech show and not a political show. That's a bit of a turn off for me. I don't care to discuss politics with tech. Tech by itself is fine by me.

There's also ScreenCasts Online by Don McAllister. He does in-depth podcasts about Mac apps. It's a weekly show. But is a paid service. Except for one podcast a month which is free. I like it a lot. I learn things about apps I use and apps I haven't used or heard about.

I like the TWiT network a lot actually, I mainly listen to/watch TWiT, TNT, and Munchcast, as well as the podcast version of the Tech Guy, and TWiF before it went on hiatus. Though I never had TechTV, I did see The Screen Savers at my uncle's house a couple times, and liked what I saw. It's good that TSS lives on within TWiT, Tekzilla, and maybe soon, fforward.
TWiT is great. I just wish iPad Today didn't have Sarah Lane. She's so damn annoying! Leo's awesome. And I too love the MR plugs.
This is the one reason I don't listen to it. If it was free I would be all over it. There are to many good and really good podcasts out there that are free that I can listen to. If you listen to MBW Don is on there and I like what he says etc, just not enought to purchase the podcasts.
