I was thinking to myself today "Self? Why haven't you tried out that new Unreal Tournament game that Epic has been working on?" I must admit I panicked a little because myself answered back, and you know that's one of the signs of madness.
"Well, apart from not wanting to hose my Mac with pre-alpha software? There's running a game that's not optimized for OS X and that's probably gonna run like a slideshow!"
Well, I did download it. I went to the Unreal Tournament site, and got it, thinking that it would be unplayable, on my late 2012 iMac, just like Metro Redux is.
I couldn't have been more wrong. I had to reduce most of the settings, but I was able to set it for 1080p res , with FXAA on, and get what feels like between 25-35 fps!
It's looking amazing, and feels just like UT, like you''d imagine it would, given its pedigree! I've only jumped onto a few online games, but the match server works like you'd imagine, and lag is not there. It did crash out on me once, but that's it.
Try it! You'll love it!!
