Funny - even as Apple bought out hyper-local forecaster Dark Sky, they are still resorting to Weather Channel forecasting - and their widgets are still basic and nowhere near as detailed as the Weather Network's (as above).

Even the effort to include hyper-local forecasting (which shows up as a more precise location at the bottom of the main Weather app) doesn't translate into the correct location name on the top of the app or widget.

Sigh. Its like v.1 of Maps all over again...

It looks like they're gradually integrating Dark Sky's features. I reckon iOS 15 will see a full revamp of the Weather app, using it.

I still don't understand the lack of actual detail in these types of weather apps. I prefer definitely Carrot Weather widget a the moment due to detailed precipitation for showing both amount and percentage per hour and per day and a minute by minute forecast. Also Forecast Bar looks amazing but widget only offers percentage precipitation at the moment and app has it a bit hidden although I tend to only use widgets every since iOS8 NC widgets and now on homescreen for some of them.

Glad to see that the forecast for at least a few upcoming days is now being included, which is something I've always been looking for when it comes to weather widgets. (Kind of went from BeWeather, to Weather Underground, to Forecast Bar, and now to The Weather Channel for that over time as different apps changed their widgets, sources, paid aspects, etc.).

Looks like 14.0.1 added precipitation forecast to Weather app in Canada.
Still not showing actual reporting station (hyper-location) as Header in widget or app - though app shows it, if scrolloing to bottom of page.
Obvious features by a thousand 'updates'.

Apple's weather app you mean? As in both amount and percentage per hour and day and show it in the widget and app? I've read that 14.0.1 has some other bugs so will stick for now to 14.0 and since I have some third party widgets that I prefer over Apples one also due to reliability of the weather source.

A bit off topic, but you are saying that 14.0.1 has newer and more/worse issues than 14.0?

Yes. It only appears when there is imminent precip forecast / happening, and it offers a graph showing when it is going to happen and how hard, along with written confirmation, like Dark Sky website. Otherwise, widget shows up with current temp and icon, along with icons representing the rest of the day.
And, like I said, the location does not show up as hyper-local on Header of widget or app. The City name weather does not necessarily reflect the neighbourhood name weather.
Its like that old George Carlin character line - that's the temperature at the airport, but who lives at the airport?

Its true, there are older weather apps out there that have not yet got a homescreen widget which look and report better.

Is it me, or does their widget not display current temperature? Seems like that would be fairly basic information that should be there as pretty much all weather widgets display at least that first and primarily.

Also, it seems that if there's a weather advisory/warning of some sort that seems to take place of the current/upcoming conditions description. The advisory/warning information is certainly important, but losing current/upcoming conditions because of that doesn't seem all that good.

Not only older ones that haven't been updated to support homescreen widgets (Partly Sunny, BeWeather3) but also the ones that did update to iOS14 homescreen widgets (and still offer NC widgets as well) such as Carrot Weather, Forecast Bar. It also has a lot to do with the weather source(s) that apps/widget offer and what works best for your location. For me Dark Sky as a weather source is not reliable at all as far as precipitation is concerned which rules out a lot of really nice widgets such as Partly Sunny and BeWeather 3.

Unfortunately Forecast Bar doesn't seem to offer a Today View/Notification Center widget in iOS 14 -- assuming we are talking about the classic widget -- once the new widgets have been introduced.

The classic widget is no longer offered if you updated to iOS14 indeed but you can use the new types of widgets in the Today View area.
