The Week of Bad Fans - 2 Macs, 2 Bad Fans ... Wow :)

So I've had a bizarre week ...

I own two Macs the Original Core Duo 17" Macbook Pro and a Original MBA (which is a brand new machine a few months of being out of the box)

A few days ago the MBP started sounding like a drill was going on inside the machine. Extremely loud and really sounding like a drill. - Figured out it was a bad fan.

Then today my brand new MBA sounded like the fan was trying to start up and simply doesn't start up - sorta like a bad hard drive trying to mount.

The MBA is still not a problem using it when I'm listening to music or a movie simply because the sound covers up the sound and the temps are really not that bad right now sitting at 57 Celcius doing web and iTunes usage.

But I thought it was so bizarre that in the same week both laptops had fans go crazy.

I actually have not been able to get either machine into the Apple Store because renovations which are ending today! - So tomorrow I will have the fun time of bringing in two Macs with two broken fans - ah - I am just kinda in shock that both my Macs have had their fans bust.

UPDATE !!

Well about 2/3s of the way through watching the Office on Hulu the temps rose to around 93 degrees and topped off there with no fans on!!

And then amazingly something happened at this heat level and kicked the fans from what I thought was a broken fan to the fully functional fan I had before!

Somehow the MBA cured itself

Good news... You maybe should still go have your fans looked at though just on the safe side.

i would say its far from fixed.

What do you mean a bad thermal sensor? - The temps are reading as they feel and the fan obviously had problems earlier today and not working at all then everything returned to normal - but the MBA did sense the heat but for some reason the fan was stuck not sure how or why but - if it comes back again I'll take a trip to Apple - it still has a full 3 years of Applecare since it is brand new.

Um, it's not a bad thermal sensor, which is what i have
Mine doesn't show a CPU temperature anymore, for like 2 weeks already. However, a bad thermal sensor, or a completely broken one, which is what i have, leads to the fans speeding up to the maximum, and staying there forever. This is pretty irritating and very loud, i don't have applecare anymore, and there aren't any applestore's here. So the only thing i have done as of now, is use SMCfancontrol, and a terminal command to limit my max fan speed to 2.5K. Made it into an app which runs at startup, and i also have other ones for 3K, 4K, and 6K. However, when waking my computer from sleep, the setting doesn't stick, so i have to quickly open the app to limit it again. I now also always have to keep an eye on my cpu usage, so my cpu won't overheat.
