I have the loneliest iPad. I'm visiting my in-laws and they don't have Internet access. My ipad has nothing except what it shipped with. This means I have had ample time to stare at the home screen.

Why don't we have a calculator, clock, or stocks? Does this mean that I can't have a sleep timer or alarm clock unless I buy some app?!? Ditto for calculator functions?

In case you're wondering I was able to "activate" on my laptop so maybe the ipad hasn't downloaded those programs?
 
This has been covered. I believe the explanation given is that Apple wasn't happy with the way those apps looked when they put them in the larger format. I'm sure you can find free apps to do those functions, either now or soon.
 
This is the problem with the iPad (and iPhone, for that matter). If you have no access to WiFi, you're screwed.

I agree that 3rd party apps will fill the void for pretty much everything... everything except an alarm! No 3rd party app will be able to have an alarm that runs in the background like the built in one in the clocks app. That I think is the only missing feature I miss, and it can't be corrected until apple makes a clock app.

What he said. The iPad is tailored to provide you with the best web browsing experience out there. Unless you have some great games and movies, you are left staring at a big, capable piece of multi-touch glass, just begging you to jump on the internet. Have fun at your in-laws' man...

I wouldn't say that. There's plenty to do on my phone without Internet access because I put games and programs on there already. Now there is a ton of stiff I want to do online all the time but I can't fault the ipad for that. That's why I was surprised to see the very offline-functional calculator disappear.

It's interesting now that I think of it though. A calculator is such a short-term use-it-&-forget-it function that it would annoy me to switch from my program where I need the calculation to the full-screen freaking calculator & back! Still, this thing is a $700 calculator anyway... You'd think it could add and subtract.
 
And that's where 3G comes in. And so many people think it's a waste.
 
Not to be Debbie Downer but what is missing is:

-webcam
-iTunes smart playlists or full iTunes
-Safari being able to download files
-opening up of the proprietary dock port
-allowing of signed apps outside the App Store
-better typography features in iBooks
-being able to update the OS without iTunes
-printing
-wireless syncing
-voice control
-ability to sync iPhone to iPad
 
People got to learn if you buy a new product you will have to wait for it to mature. By summer the iPad will be grate. CNN site is just wonderful. They get it. Apple let the media call it a bit iPod touch and it is not that. The iPad Does not blow you away the first hour if you have an iPhone. But after an hour you are wow. People play around with it at the apple store but the don't get the real feel of the iPad and how good the keyboard. If you ask me os3.2 is just temporary and 4.0 is going to make us go :eek:

All valid points. I think though that some apps have the ability to print something wirelessly over wifi to a printer on the network.

I'd also like to add to the list: double the RAM to 512MB, and perhaps a slightly higher res screen, like 1280 x 1024.
 
I didn't believe it until I opened the box.....apple is so stingy they didn't even include a polishing rag!!!!

I mean it's like $0.50 at most I paid a whopping $600 and what does apple expect me to use to clean the screen, my cotton tshirt!!!??
 
This sounds like less of an iPad problem and more of an user problem. You didn't,t repair for the trip, and now you are paying for it.

Five minutes at a wifi before heading to the in-laws and you would have been fine.
 
Activation is dumb.

The biggest missing feature out of the box is iDisk. All the other missing apps should be 3rd party IMHO.

Except clock since I actually use the heck out of it in the background.

Since there's no multitasking, will a 3rd party app be able to run in the background and then go off when the time comes?
 
USB Ports...

I'd like to connect my USB keys, printers and external drives to my iPad.
 
This is completely a personal opinion, but this is what I think:

- Apple has been working on 4.0 for the past year, concurrently with the iPad extensions to 3.0 (which became 3.2).
- I don't think the iPhone in OS 4.0 will necessary get all of iPad's 3.2 features in terms of pop-ups, etc.
- I think now Apple is going to put all focus on finishing up 4.0 for iPhone (and perhaps iPad as well).
- Once that's done, they will start working on Stocks, Clock, Calculator, etc. As many rumors/ideas suggested, they may come in one app, or a more widget-like sort of thing. I don't see the need to have a full-screen weather, calculator, or clock app. Stocks I can see being extended to full-screen with new functionality, but not the rest.
 
I'd really just like to have a unified inbox for mail and the ability to reorder email accounts.
 
I'd really like to see the Home Sharing feature or at least a streaming feature to your iTunes.

That way when you're around the house or whatever, you can play your music without storing it on the iPad.
