Nice! I just so happen to own that. Bought it on super sale a while back, but never got around to playing it.

Thanks for pointing this out.

And Wineskin port is totally awful, my saves are getting corrupted and corrupted again (Now i have to kill the "Beast" for 2nd time on Hard ._. )

I myself is quite torned with wineskin-ports. I really hate to be in bootcamp, in fact so much the only games that has me changing is bf3 and skyrim. And even those I dont play nearly as much as I would with a version on OS X. I have top of the line iMac so the performance is never a big issue even with wineskin as long as you dont need everything on ultra. But they often have bugs when it comes to savegames and stuff.
I would rather want good ports than wineskin/ciderised games, but I would rather want wineskin/cider ports than no port. I also think that the more games being wineskin ported the more money will be invested in the technology behind so it will improve.
So I will buy this game as I have heard so many great things about this game.

What I dont like is it being steam only:( Steam is ok in some ways but it is a hazzle to move games beetween my Bootdrive (ssd) and my normal storage drive.

So is this a native port or not? I am tired of reading posts saying that a game is "for Mac" when it requires Boot Camp, Parallels or the like.

When you say wineskin are you talking about the Mac port or what?

Wineskin and Cider are tools used to port the Windows version of a game... its a Mac app and you double click it and run it like any other mac app, but behind the scenes, they didn't have to re-code any of the game for the Mac, its the Windows version. The libraries available from Wine (and the fork off Wine called Cedega used for Cider) basically implement Windows APIs so Windows software can run. Since no help or documentation comes from Microsoft, its always a work in progress trying to get it better. Some things run fantastic, some so-so, and some won't run at all. Its sort of like an emulator, but not really an emulator. You don't really have to know that though, as the game looks like any other Mac app, all that supporting stuff is built in.

The Witcher was ported with Wineskin, which anyone can use to try to port games on their own, but its often better like in this case when the actual game maker does it themselves.

It happens on widows too, but more often in wine.
I played the PC version in my own homemade wineskin wrapper.
I had the same issue, with quests reappearing and have to redo them, I had to revert to an older save a few times.

When I was pretty far in my MBP went to repair and I replayed the game to the finish, and it happened in windows too, but only once.

CDProject has made a few changes to the "mac version", It's actually the gog.com version (found many traces of it in the registry), but something is changed as the PC version will not display health bars properly in wine.

The only thing that's a bit strange is that they use a very old wine version. 1.3.7, while the newest is 1.5.1 (latest 1.3 wine was 1.3.37).
It also use Wineskin 2.5.4 (2.5.5 beta 2 is out and quite a bit faster).

I'm pretty sure that with update to 2.5.5 and 1.5.x it would be quite a bit faster, but I haven't had time testing it yet.

Both Wine and Wineskin has the last year got quite a stability and performance upgrade and with the current pace I'm pretty sure it will be faster and better than Cider is now.
EA and rockstar is already releasing games wrapped with Cider as Mac games. As well as Warhammer ONline, League of Legends (but they terminated the project) and many more.

SOme might disagree about releasing games like this, but the work behind the mac version of The Witcher is done by people like code weavers and doh123 and not CDProject, and they only live on donations and everyone can use their work freely!
(THe Sims series, Dragon Age series, GTA Series,

I bought this game, I had actually no idea that Steam allowed ciderized games, I was surprised that they even bothered to port this game so I was really excited and gave them all my money. What I got is a lazy cider thingy.

I'm gonna have to test the performance, I'm sure it'll be fine since it's an old game but still somehow I feel "cheated", it's a matter of principle.

its not Cider :)

Yes it seems to be Wineskin. I tried this game and I have a 2010 iMac with Radeon 5670 512 MB, the FPS is around 3-10 and the game locks the mouse, can't use Steam overlay for messaging friends and there is no option to go windowed or switch between applications. I read that you could edit some plist to use windowed mode but what kind of app that you pay for should require a user to do something like that?

I could have ported this game with the same performance myself.

you should play with your graphics settings more... many people are getting a lot higher FPS with similar hardware.

Also if you want to toggle in and out of Fullscreen mode, its built into all Wineskin ports... use Cmd+Opt+A shortcut keys.
