I was at my local Apple store (Coquitlam, BC) today to check out the new Apple TV's and iPad Pro. While checking out the iPad, a woman in the middle of the store started screaming and swearing. Apparently she had stolen an iPod or iPhone and security had handcuffed her. Security consisted of two guys in uniform and two security personnel in street clothes. She created a scene in the store while yelling loudly and running around in handcuffs. At one moment she even started running towards a crowd of people, startling everyone. There was a huge group of people outside the store looking. Security managed to calm her and escorted her to the back room. Moments later the cops arrived. However, I checked back half an hour later and they still hadn't removed her.
How are situations like this handled usually? I guess theft is pretty common, but it usually doesn't end like this. No one in the store had noticed her being handcuffed and it was pretty discrete until she started making a scene. Security did not attempt to intervene too much or use physical force. Most employees carried on and didn't confront her, with the exception of one (probably a manager). Where was she kept in the back room? Is there a special room for these circumstances, since she still seemed pretty agitated and potentially dangerous to employees.
