Themes available in OS 4.0??

hey guys, one thing that Apple needs to do to not lose as much ground on the android, is to promote customization for the iphone... There are a ton of themes out there, people are complaining about the same theme for the past 3 years and are geting bored of it...

It would be really good for those who make new themes, toss them on Itunes for .99c or whatever so they can make some money and people can shut up about the same old OS look and feel...

Do you think apple will allow themes in OS 4.0? Also when do you think we will see OS 4.0 demonstrated?

on an unrelated topic, with appulos down and not coming back, are all the apps that are being hacked on appulous (fbook feed) being uploaded to apptrackr??
 
I don't know if they'll allow it, few do, but it's not a bad idea. However, I'd expect themes to be kind to the resources.
 
I think it's highly unlikely. They don't allow themes on OSX or in any of their applications. At best you can hope for your own wallpaper behind the app icons on the home screen like the iPad.
 
I'll be reasonably content if they finally let us set our own springboard background without jailbreaking. It's just getting silly now - all I want is a nice subtle gradient behind the icons, without having to JB my phone to get it.
 
I've said this time and time again that Apple just needs to purchase the rights to Winterboard. Include it in the OS 4.0 upgrade. I'm sure everyone at Apple knows that it can be done, so why not just do it already?
 
Yah I don't think it's ever going to happen. I can certainly see them adding some widget type support. So you can throw something with real time info on your main screen above a few icons. And probably a more helpful lock screen. Other then that Apple tends to not want to confuse people by allowing things to change to much. As much as i wish :(
 
I think, like usual, Apple will release some completely underwhelming new features for 4.0. People will complain that they didn't address the majority of the issues at hand and yet iPhone sales will continue to rise.
 
Absolutely not, haha and i don't blame them after seeing mot of them, it just makes the devises look bad to others not knowing its the owner that has done it to the interface. Plus the vast majority of people just don't care, it may feel otherwise on these geek forums but thats the case.

Hopefully the next iPhone has twice as much more memory as the 3Gs then.
 
You know that this will happen, once again evidence in the SDK there is a framework file for basic customization of the home screen.
 
This will never happen. Apple has never has themes for anything, and they never will. It's not a tech issue, it's a style issue.

I agree. But I bet Safari will be snappier.

I'd like to see themes on OS 4.0, but only with each one being approved by apple; with no approval system, themes can be horrible on android.

Agreed. There are bigger priorities that I'd rather see addressed than themes.

If there's one thing that Apple is getting good at, it's having an approval process.....:p
 
Well first off I don't think it's out of the realm of possibility. Apple has had almost a full year which to work on a new major update since 3.1.2 and several new phones have come into their market since that updat. Meaning they need to take back the lime light and one of the major issues needing to be addressed are multitasking, texting without closing applications, email, and customization!

This would be a really easy implimentation to iTunes and the app store with a approval process and requirements for the coding processes. It really wouldn't be that hard at all and the biggest thing android has over the iPhone is the customability you have over your phone. If you want to make it look different you can and have it personalized not appleized!!!

It really wouldn't be too hard steal or create a winterboard application call it custom settings and allow for installing themes and customizing your springboard.

Meh, imo that's a given, so it's no fun bringing that up in speculation. It's like people saying they should focus on putting in a faster chip or something. We know it will happen.

Out of their whole list of priorities I'm sure notifications is wayyy up there.

Don't know what kind of math you're doing, but saying almost a full year puts us closer to the release of 2.2.1 than 3.1.2. 3.1.2 was only released in October and you can bet Apple was working on it until a few days to a week before it was released. In fact, almost a year ago, we were right in the middle between the release of 2.2.1 and 3.0.

Safari has been "snappier" ever since the first update for the iPhone back in 2007. :rolleyes:

How do you come to that conclusion? There are several people wanting an is overhaul but in reality just themes will satisfy that.
